Bravely Default HD Remaster comes to PC and Xbox

After releasing exclusively on Switch 2 as a launch title, the remaster of the original Bravely Default game has today been released on PC (Steam and Microsoft Store) and Xbox with little in the way of fanfare or publicity. The JRPG from 2012 received rave reviews on in its original 3DS incarnation, with the remaster largely just making the game more accessible to modern audiences. The title is noted to be Steam Deck Verified, as well as compatible with ROG Xbox Ally.

ok so I don't really care if it's a lazy upscale and not really a remaster

is the port actually good? stable, and performs well?
Not quite 70 reviews on Steam yet, but 98% positive. People getting more than 800 FPS with the limit off. Seems better than a lot of Square releases.

I feel like it comes down to whether or not you like breaking job systems. I do so I found a lot of fun in this series
That’s fair. I personally don’t like having to look up the right way to play on a guide, but that’s because I’m too lazy brained for stuff like this 🤣

PC, eh?

Hopefully that means it's possible to mod in 0% encounter rate (an option that was in the 3DS original, mind you, AND in Bravely Second, aside from a few endgame areas that force 100% encounter rate - don't know why they decided to remove it, when it's so useful at times).
Oh, and mod in the original Japanese outfits, before they got censored in the international 3DS release (which was easy to mod in with LayeredFS - just place the Japanese files within the BD romfs folder).

Those are literally the exact reasons I haven't bothered buying the Switch 2 version - I already have Bravely Default on 3DS, which has 0%/50%/100%/150%/200% encounter rates (instead of just 50% and up) and which has the Japanese outfits, so why would I bother with the inferior Switch 2 "remaster"?
0% encounter rates are in the remake. Just unlockable

It run perfectly even if it has denuvo, the only "downside" ig are censorship toward classes, costumes & no ultrawide support. But i'm pretty sure it gonna be modded soon or later

because wide screen, hd, remaster lol
the remastered stuff makes it superior in general, not inferior
cool if surround sound too

but for specially you, yeah if you can't go without the extra encounter rates, or need the extra skin in the models, I'd give it a miss.
Certainly will be able to be modded or hacked to do what you want, but then you'd have to purchase the pc version which I guess you'd feel better by boycotting it and not giving them your money? maybe a good reason to pirate!

Likely will buy the Steam version, just in case.

Oh, and your first paragraph? I don't really care about the new minigames or increased screen resolution; the latter is nice, but not vital, considering it's still the same experience at its core.

EDIT: i just noticed... "Flying Fairy", that actually describes me perfectly, wouldnt you agree @AncientBoi 😋 😚
Have you ever played Bravely Default before, out of curiosity? As in, finished the game?

Nope.
Started once on 3DS and once on Emulator.
Playing it right now, looks so pretty.
Oh okay; I hope you have fun!

It's just that you mentioned how the subtitle "describes [you] perfectly", which...um...hmm. Certainly makes me chuckle, considering the hidden meaning behind the subtitle.

For some reason I feel its smoother and looks better on my Steam Deck compared to the NS2.

Probably placebo but works so good on the Steam Deck that I will continue playing on it instead.

According to this, the Japanese release of this HD remaster isn't censored, just like the JPN versions of the 3DS game weren't - but the international releases are, annoyingly.

I wonder how long it'll take for someone to get ahold of the Japanese version, copy the costume files, and release them as a mod for the English version...?

Also, the removal of the hourglass, and with it SP - okay, what? That's dumb; that's a major lead-in for Bravely Second, as it being given to Tiz at the very start of Default pays off big time in the sequel.
What, are they not going to rerelease Second at all, or something? Or are they going to update Default to put the hourglass back in, after releasing Second?
Even aside from story ramifications, I liked the SP mechanic in the 3DS game; being able to pause time whenever you desired in order to do massive damage, or do an emergency heal, or similar, was a fantastic boon. Now...nope, not possible, which definitely negatively affects battle strategies.

Censorship does suck, but I can't say I'm dying to see more skin on 15 and 17 year old characters...

I can't say I missed the SP hourglass in practice. It was a reward for not playing the game and there are so many tools to break the game already. They took out the teaser for the second game so I'm sure they either have no plans for re release or will remove that part from the story
