Hacking Hardware We can now use the AX88772B on the Wii U

I have the same adapter, and I successfully changed the vid and pid to the ones of the original 0b95:7720

There is a tool which allows reading and writing the configuration eeprom
I first tried just replacing the vid pid in both locations and that mad the adapter show up as 0b95:772a, which is strange since 772a is nowhere to be found in the rom, but that would be the correct pid for the AX88772A, which the apple one is.
I then flashed just the whole ROM from a UGREEN AX88772 (without A) to the apple one and then the apple one also showed up as 0b95:7720.
I then checked the chipcode of my UGREEN adapter which was bought as the AX88772 one and the chipcode shows it is the A. So it seems that either UGREEN or the amazon seller faked the PID.

Since the A is so similar to the original one, this should work for every AX88772A, which doesn't have the PID change feature fused off. This won't work for the AX88772B and later, since it needs the wii u to write a different value to one register.

I attached the ROM of the ugreen one, that transforms the A into the non A. Try at your own risk. Be careful, this might brick the adapter. Also keep two backups of the original rom somewhere save. Also if you flash it to multiple adapters, you should change the mac address (I recommend to the original one of your adapter) in the ROM or else it would cause problems if they are used on the same network.

With this it should work on a completely stock Wii / Wii U / Switch

I am thinking about purchasing a tplink UE306 which has AX88179, and reading @neverendsDull it seems that it works with some tweaks
What happen if i want to change the adapter later? Do i have to rewrite the system files again ?

This is an ISFShax plugin, if you have installed ISFShax, then 0 risk.

Tried the plugin today and is not working for me. Adapter itself works fine as tested on Windows with the details below.

As I was kind of expecting, my bad. It has been over a year since I set up isfxhax and about 2-3 months since I last used the Wii U, so had lost track of the fact that I had set it up to boot from the SLC.

Realised it when on the next boot, I paid attention to the boot screen and saw that the plugin was not in the list. Transferred all the plugins to the SLC and it is working fine now.

I purchased this adapter a year ago and it was just lying about, so thanks for making it useful finally. Nice to see the speeds hitting nearly 20 Mbps now.

Hey @SDIO I've got an AX88772C that's not working:

ASIX AX88772C USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter
USB\VID_2001&PID_1A02

Branded as Trendnet TU2-ET100 but googling the IDs comes up as D-Link DUB-E100, so I'm guessing Trendnet bought out a bunch of their stock and changed the casing.

Didn't work on Win 11 out of the box and Trendnet's driver installer on their website did nothing. I had to install the driver manually by selecting the ASIX AX88772C driver from the network driver list in Windows. Once I did though it worked fine.

This is also for my redNAND Wii U if that makes any difference? I tried with the patch in both wii u/iso_plugins and hax/iso_plugins, before and after using haxcopy to install it to SLC.

Late reply but I bought a handful of these adapters with the intention to find a way to modify them.

Did some hex editing on the eeprom to see if I could get this working while keeping most of the eeprom intact.
Turns out you can force the vid and pid to `0b95:7720` using that same tool and editing a few fields.
Feel free to copy and update these directions since I'm not too familiar with writing instructions for using a hex editor:

1. Backup eeprom
sudo ./asix_eepromtool --device=05ac:1402 --read=A1277_XX_eep.bin -s 512

2. Make edited copy of eeprom file (optional if you want to restore it back later or you mess something up)
EDIT_A1277_VL_XX_eep.bin

3. Open edited copy in hex editor
set first pair value at 0000:0000 to 8F

set last pair value at 0000:0010 to 7C

There are two locations to edit the MAC, use Find to view them.
Replace both MAC addresses with your custom MAC address.
For compatibility with the Wii and Wii U you'll want 0b95:7720.

4. Save edited file
5. Write the file to the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter device
sudo ./asix_eepromtool --device=05ac:1402 --write=EDIT_A1277_XX_eep.bin -s 512

When I tired that with my adapters it somehow didn't work. When I modified the eeprom it seemed like the adapter ignored it completely and fell back to its default vid PID. I assumed that was because of the checksum but didn't bother to try further as the dumped eeprom from the ugreen adapter worked

I have an AX88772C adapter, and I'd like to be able to play on vWii with my adapter. Would you be able to make this possible? Or at least give me somewhere to get started? I could map out iOS58 stuff myself and do it if you haven't gotten started on it yourself already.

Verification all passes but every install bricks the IOS. I'm guessing IOSU rejects the fakesigned TMD at load time.

can you share the patched file? I guess it's a wad for iOS? and it is region specific?

It is not a region specific patch, and it's patched at runtime via homebrew. Patching the file directly, or even unpacking, patching, and repacking - caused more issues than I want to actually try tackling (I thought I bricked my Wii permanently like twice )

Keep in mind this is my first ever homebrew app and I had to make this because it just didn't exist and I needed it badly. So I'm very inexperienced.

If you want to install the stock IOS 36/58/80 after using the patcher, just use decaffeinator and then run a Wii U system update. Nothing in the patcher should brick your vWii, but if you get any errors or want me to try and add support for another variant of adapter I don't mind trying to do that.
