Minecraft for 3DS has been a dream of mine and many people for many years. Eventually that became a reality, but only for New 3DS users, and it never got stereoscopic 3D as we were told we'd get. Before that though, another game had given us some of what Minecraft: New 3DS Edition never could. That game was Cube Creator 3D.

Even still, it wasn't Minecraft. Thus, all these years later (and a few restless nights) I took on the opportunity to combine the two. And so I present to you all:

The Minecraft Conversion Mod for Cube Creator 3D!

Title screen, featuring a custom made title logo and bottom screen background, Java 1.0 panorama for the top screen background, and UI interfaces borrowed from GextsCraft's Cube Creator 3D mod.
Original texture pack, based on Java 1.0.
Pixel texture pack, based on Minecraft Classic.
Highlander texture pack, based on Minecraft 1.21+.
HUD and crafting menu showcase.
3D items, block damage, and inventory showcase.
Third person view to show off Steve as he replaces the original player model.

Screenshots taken in the Azahar emulator.
As of 03/12/2026, I am considering this mod done. I will now move on from this mod to focus on other projects, for real. If I happen to continue to work on this mod, it will be smaller updates—mainly in the form of texture pack and model replacements—as I still have so much in mind for this mod. Too much of my time was sacrificed into this and I deserve rest from it at last.

Minecraft Conversion Mod: The Official Finished Release!
After so many late nights and uncountable hours of work, I am proud to have finally reached a point where I can consider this mod "finished." The source is available on GitHub for anyone to download, play with it, and make their own modifications and additions to it. It's been fun (albeit tiresome) learning how to mod this game, creating my own Minecraft models along the way too. Hope you enjoy this mod more than I did making it!
Now as for the changelog (assuming I remember anymore what I changed):
  • Replaced all the tool and weapon models and textures.
  • Replaced most sound effects (excluding most of the monsters and the walking sound effects, the latter being more complex to implement than I anticipated).
  • Replaced the player's model for the default Minecraft player model.
    • Player 1 uses Steve's texture, player 2 uses Alex's, player 3 uses Sunny's, and player 4 uses Makena.
  • Tweaked the portal's texture.
  • Replaced the "Highlander" texture pack with textures based on the latest versions of Minecraft.

[03/02/2026]
Yummy Tunes Update!
  • Replaced music with a selection of Minecraft soundtracks
  • Replaced all food models with their respective Minecraft counterpart
    • There's no bear meat so I opted for fish
  • Couple of fixes here and there that I lost track of

[03/02/2026]
Much, much smaller update because I realized that I didn't include the files for the crosshair and block damage. They're now included in the attached Demo 3.2 file. In addition:
  • Replaced dropped items bag (what the player drops after dying) with chest model.

[03/02/2026]
Even smaller update, lest you consider the complete replacement of a texture pack a big change
  • Replaced Pixel texture pack with Minecraft Classic textures
  • Updated the wood bucket's textur

[03/01/2026]
Doing a proper changelog as I should've been since Demo 2
  • Gave Mana (Blaze Powder) and Bandage (String) proper 3D models.
  • Replaced the model & texture for the clouds.
  • Replaced multiple textures: bandage (inventory), crosshair, block damage.
  • Made bundle texture transparent.
  • Swapped out the texture for the marble block (was mossy cobblestone previously, it's now smooth stone).
  • Fixed the white arrow in the crafting menu (previously was pointing at the ingredients when it should be pointing at the result).

This mod features:
  • Custom made title graphics
  • Custom textures for the HUD, GUI, inventory, icons, etc (some assets were borrowed from GextsCraft's mod of an earlier version of Cube Creator 3D which aimed to do the same as this mod of mine)
  • Textures based on Java Edition v1.0 (and surrounding versions)
  • Texture packs based on other Minecraft versions
  • Custom models for items, tools, weapons, and the player
  • A selection of Minecraft's soundtrack and sound effects
Download at: https://github.com/Axonic3D/CC3D-Minecraft-Conversion-Mod

I hope y'all get to give this mod a try and enjoy it! Do provide feedback and advice, working on this alone is a greater endeavor than I could ever have imagined. It has been worth it and my hopes for what else I can pull of push me to continue working on this project!

Minecraft and its assets are property of Mojang and Microsoft. Some of the assets used for this mod were ported from GextsCraft's own mod of Cube Creator 3D, specifically some UI elements. Cube Creator 3D is property of Big John Games.

Dès que j'aurai trouvé comment modifier les sons, je les remplacerai. Cela inclura la musique et les effets sonores.
JI'm not sure, but I think the files are in bcstm format.

Except for one file titled CubeCraft3DS.bcsar, indeed the sound files are in bcstm format.

GextsCraft hasn't posted the ROM hack?

GextsCraft's mod is separate from mine, they have a post about it and the download was on one of their videos. Alas, all those videos appear to have been taken down (in addition, the mod contained the full game rather than just the assets so it would've been taken down on this site for piracy). Here's their post about the mod they made: https://gbatemp.net/threads/minecraft-for-3ds-old-hackrom-cube-creator-3d-beta.637089/

It's true that yours isn't really a ROM hack, but it's still incredible!

As of 03/01/2026, this mod has overtaken my mind and causes me mental distress on a daily basis, yet I continue to work on it anyways for I do not want to toss another incomplete project into my ever-growing pile of such.

  • Custom made title graphics
  • Custom HUD, GUI, inventory UI, etc (some assets were borrowed from GextsCraft's mod of an earlier version of Cube Creator 3D which aimed to do the same as mine)
  • Textures based on Java Edition v1.0 (and surrounding versions)
  • Custom item models (02/11/2026: only the mana, bandage, and saplings have custom item drop models)
  • Custom inventory textures
As for goals for the future:
  • Custom music and sounds (something GextsCraft's mod already pulled off yet I still haven't figured out)
  • Replacing all items with custom models
  • Custom character/NPC models and animations
  • Replacing CC3D's font with Minecraft's (also don't know how to do this one)
  • Changing the other texture packs to be Minecraft themed, possibly including some of Minecraft's most popular free texture packs
  • Including code modifications to change the FOV, player and enemy physics, crafting recipe requirements, etc
To install on 3DS, simply extract the contents of the .zip into the root of your 3DS's SD card. Make sure your 3DS is modded with Luma before installing!
I hope y'all get to give this mod a try and enjoy it! Do provide feedback and advice, working on this alone is a greater endeavor than I could ever have imagined. It has been worth it and my hopes for what else I can pull of push me to continue working on this project!

New update is out!

Changelog (03/01/2026):
  • Gave Mana (Blaze Powder) and Bandage (String) proper 3D models.
  • Replaced the model & texture for the clouds.
  • Replaced multiple textures: bandage (inventory), crosshair, block damage.
  • Made bundle texture transparent.
  • Swapped out the texture for the marble block (was mossy cobblestone previously, it's now smooth stone).
  • Fixed the white arrow in the crafting menu (previously was pointing at the ingredients when it should be pointing at the result).
I've yet to figure out an easier way to make models out of Minecraft's items, I employed better methods with the bandage/string and that still took me approx. 2 hours. Still, this has me excited to change the tools (right after I finish the foods)!

Edit (03/02/2026):

Replaced the "Pixel" texture pack with a selection of Minecraft Classic's textures. The updated mod has been added to the post. The next texture pack I'll be changing is the "Highlander" pack, replacing it with a selection of modern Minecraft textures (1.21 onwards). Any suggestions for what to replace some of the other packs with are more than welcome!

Hello again and congratulations on everything you've done!
You'll be able to use the Faithless texture pack?
Regarding the menu music (if you figure out how to do it) you can use "Moog city 2"

How do you edit bctex and other files? I'd like to create a ROM hack.

Hi and thanks! Apologies for the delayed response.
Regarding the Faithless texture pack, I would've had to confirm if it's "Open Assets" (meaning I can use it without asking for permission, only providing credit to the creator/creators of the texture pack). For the time being though, I'm gonna focus on making texture packs using Minecraft's official assets. Afterwards, if I'm still up for it, I'll add suggested packs as long as they're free to use without permission.
I changed the menu music alongside the soundtracks heard ingame. Thanks for the suggestion! This and many new changes will be available in the next update, whenever I finish that up.
How do you edit bctex and other files? I'd like to create a ROM hack.
Putting it briefly: download CTR Studio, dump Cube Creator 3D's RomFS (you can do that through Azahar by right-clicking the game and selecting "Dump RomFS" or using GodMode9 on your 3DS though I suggest looking for a tutorial on how to do that; I am not liable of any damage you or anyone else does to their console), locate the texture pack you want to change (texture packs are in the world folder and are named as "cubecreator_[TEXTURENAME]map.bctex"). Open the .bctex file you want to change in CTR Studio, open the folders until you find the texture, right-click the texture and click "replace," find the texture PNG you want to replace it with (you have to make it first too; I have attached the texture pack I made for the Minecraft Conversion Mod in this post so you and any other readers can use it as a template), and make sure the format is ETC1A4 (I dunno about the other settings, I haven't spotted any notable differences, leave as is or change at your own risk).

Save the file, place it in luma\titles\0004000000151100\romfs\world (for the 3DS copy), and you should be ready to enjoy your new texture pack!

Okay, thanks. I plan to modify the textures in MK7, but it's complicated.

Okay, thanks. I plan to modify the textures in MK7, but it's complicated.
CTR Studios should be the app for that too, I don't know much else aside from that tho. Maybe it's not so different from the process I described? In any case, best of success to ya!

As of 03/06/2026, I have toned down the goals I had in mind for this mod. I won't aim for perfection or get more ambitious than I already have been with this mod.

This mod features:
  • Custom made title graphics

  • Textures based on Java Edition v1.0 (and surrounding versions)
  • Texture packs based on other Minecraft versions
  • Custom item models
  • A selection of Minecraft's soundtrack
As for future goals:
  • Replacing all item models with custom ones
  • Changing the other texture packs to be Minecraft themed, possibly including some of Minecraft's most popular free texture packs (I initially considered adding at the very least the "barebones" texture pack, but then I realized it'd be best if I ask permission first and I'm not going through that hassle for a Cube Creator 3D mod. Unless the pack is considered "Open Assets" with only credits being asked for, I won't be including textures that aren't officially from Minecraft)
  • Including code modifications to change the FOV, player and enemy physics, crafting recipe requirements, etc (I don't have the time to learn how to modify this game's code, especially when my tool of choice is the CTRPluginFramework)

Minecraft and its assets are property of Mojang and Microsoft. Some of the assets used for this mod were ported from GextsCraft's own mod of Cube Creator 3D, specifically some UI elements. Cube Creator 3D is property of Big John Games.
This mod looks very cool - but for the love of god i've been driving myself insane trying to find the download link. Call me an old person, but could anyone help?

The file is attached to the po--

... where'd the file go

Gimme a bit as I add it back. I have no idea what happened here.

03/09/2026, 2:02 PM: I realized the file is too big now to upload here, most likely thanks to the music replacements. I'm opening a GitHub page for it, it's the first time I do so though so it'll take me a bit as I figure out how to set it up.

03/09/2026, 2:08 PM: The files are now in GitHub. They aren't zipped though, so make sure to place them in this directory: [SD card root]\luma\titles\0004000000151100\romfs. If the Title ID and RomFS folders on't exist, create them.

03/09/2026, 2:47 PM: bruh i forgot to actually include the link. Here's the GitHub page, I'm gonna add it to the main post too in a minute: https://github.com/Axonic3D/CC3D-Minecraft-Conversion-Mod

Bump posting this as I announce that this mod is...
Finished and released!
New sound effects, all item and tool and weapon models replaced, and another texture pack replaced among other changes, this is the biggest update I've worked on yet. Big enough that I'd be okay not updating this again. If y'all know how to mod or want to get started, I won't guide you much (not through here on GBAtemp, at least) but you can feel free to use my mod as a reference point. All I ask is for credit for the original mod.

All that aside, enjoy playing "I Can't Believe It's Not Minecraft!"

Even still, it wasn't Minecraft. Thus, all these years later (and a few restless nights) I took on the opportunity to combine the two. And so I present to you all:

The Minecraft Conversion Mod for Cube Creator 3D!

I hope y'all get to give this mod a try and enjoy it! Do provide feedback and advice, working on this alone is a greater endeavor than I could ever have imagined. It has been worth it and my hopes for what else I can pull of push me to continue working on this project!

Minecraft and its assets are property of Mojang and Microsoft. Some of the assets used for this mod were ported from GextsCraft's own mod of Cube Creator 3D, specifically some UI elements. Cube Creator 3D is property of Big John Games.

In the options. Load your world/save, pause the game, you'll see it as an option you can check off near the bottom.

Okay, I'll check!

I found the option, but I can't activate it.
Is it because I'm on version 1.1?

Probably? I'm using version 1.21, as can be seen on the screenshot of the title screen. The setting is turned on by taping on it on the touch screen.
