Super Mario Bros Remastered gets update 1.1 release, features a revamped level editor, new course parts, and classic physics

Having originally launched towards the end of last year, Super Mario Bros Remastered is a project aiming to revitalise the original Super Mario Bros experience in a modern engine on Windows and Linux. Featuring modernised physics, support for resource packs and custom characters, as well as a level editor with built-in level downloading via LevelShareSquare. Getting started was as simple as pointing the executable to your ROM to extract assets, and jumping straight in.

Releasing alongside a reveal trailer yesterday the 1.1 update adds an incredible amount to the base experience. Between a revamped level editor, a host of new course parts to play with, and the ability to create your own campaigns via level packs, this update makes what I would consider to be the best way to experience Super Mario Bros even better. For those out there who cling to the old ways, classic physics were also added as an option, mirroring the way the original NES game felt as closely as possible.

If you're interested in giving the game a shot for yourself, you can find the download below on the game's official GitHub page. Note you will be required to provide your own Super Mario Bros NES ROM.

Anyone know how to run this on an Anbernic or TrimUI handheld?
Speaking as someone who's owned a couple Anbernics, it *might* be possible on a CFW but someone would need to create a port of it, i don't know how intensive this would be and what models would be supported but it NEVER hurts to check around portmaster's website and discord. I checked and there's no mention of a request or a port created, but if it's something you really want, why not go ask? they've done some pretty damn impressive stuff over there!

Is it native Linux compatible? How is the experience on Steam Deck?
Maybe I should give it a try.
Most of the Anbernics etc. are unfortunately dropping Linux and going all Android so, not sure if those older handhelds have the power for a decent experience with this.

Ah, they do have a Linux and Windows release so it might work natively on Steam Deck and Anbernic.
I'm gonna wait a bit until a stable release to do some testing, but portmaster mostly just works with shell scripts so if you're a little techy yourself, you can probably get it working on Anbernics or through Portmaster yourself.

Good on the devs for being smart and announcing this alongside release.
To be fair, the project has been out since September, with it originally being announced in July of last year:

They could've done a teaser trailer ahead of time and I very much doubt anything would've come of it.

Just finished...
