Ah, suddenly thinking about that time in 2000 when my mom was my class' tutor (public schools in Mexico has a thing called "Directive Group" (Mesa Directiva) consisting in bunch of different parents (3 to 5) + group's teacher that takes important school decitions and organizes school trips) and my mother somehow got involved with the breakfast that was given to every child at my school. In order for your kid to afford it, you'd had to pay ¢50.00 everyday.

Usually, the breakfast consisted in:
- Fruit (🍊, or 🍎, or 🍐 but most of the times 🍌)
- Dessert (🍪, or 🍩, or 🥐, or 🍫)
- Drink (🧃, or 🥛)

Don't know how or why, but my group got "nice cookies" instead of the cheap generic ones (usually bran/oat cookies).
These cookies we were given were branded and expensive. Turns out, the "Directive Group" made a deal with a "Marinela" dealer to give us these for cheap:

If I recall correctly, on stores these where $1.50 in the year 2000 mom was buying them at ¢50 each!
This means she bought 3 for store price instead of one!

Somehow, the "Marinela" dealer gave the directive group SO MANY that the parents ended up not only giving each child one product but actually distributing the rest between each parent in the directive group.

My house ended up with dozens of these "Barritas Marinela" every week that up till this day I can't stand to eat marmalade because it makes me puke.

What's something you simply had too much from that it got ruined?

Edit: Been dealing with Jealousy since I was 7 😎

Those cheap valentine chocolates with strawberry and orange fillings. Any other chocolate is fine for me but the valentines ones I ate too much when I was a kid and they disgust me now.

Flaming hot monster munch. Ate like 3 boxes of them over a few days, can't even smell them now, put me off for life.

VEGETABLE OILS

SOY

Nearly all the world's soy is genetically modified. It is used in so many processed foods. Called different things too.

Soy Lecithin E322. Commonly seen in chocolate.
Emulsifier E421, E426, E479b, E481, E482, etc.

CORN
Nearly all the corn in the world is genetically modified. I never eat it. A quick search:

  • E150a: Plain caramel
  • E150b: Caustic sulphite caramel
  • E150c: Ammonia caramel
  • E150d: Sulphite ammonia caramel
  • Modified Starches (can be corn-derived)
    • E1412: Distarch phosphate
    • E1422: Acetylated distarch adipate
    • E1442: Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate
  • Acidity Regulators/Antioxidants (often produced via fermentation using corn products)
    • E300: Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
    • E330: Citric acid
  • Thickeners/Emulsifiers
    • E322: Lecithin (can be derived from maize, as well as soy or egg yolks)
    • E415: Xanthan gum (produced by fermentation, can use a corn-derived growth medium)
Basically I avoid processed foods as much as possible. Nearly all take-away places use toxic vegetable oils and GMO ingredients.

Bananas.

Any time I was hungry as a teen, my dad made us eat 1 or 2 bananas. Now I can't stand real bananas.
Aw. What about fake ones?
