It is just a webserver that someone put to dbi.locations config file in some cfw pack. Not related to DBI at all.

Nothing but the hosts file is needed and that definitely differs from 90DNS since for the latter, every single connection has to pass the 90DNS server causing an unneeded bottleneck whereas for the hosts file, telemetry to certain target servers (*caugh* Nintendo *caugh*) are just being blocked by the console itself causing no effect on other homebrew apps (like the appstare) so that they can connect to the internet in "full speed" just fine.

Homebrews (and system modules) can have its own dns resolvers and not use system one, so hosts file or 90NDS will not be used.

Just looked at the DBI git page after I saw something about this freeshop thing on youtube, but then saw this under each release:

The 04 juli 2023 note sounds like DBI is set up to block other people's efforts to apply translation patches or am I misreading this?

And what is the 23 september 2025 comment supposed to mean? I know there's been much drama about what I believed to be a misunderstanding and sarcastic angry remark about bricking, but what the hell is tagging and glitching supposed to mean here?

It is not a DBI feature, Nor that is the DBI page. That is the GitHub of a third party whom put together files and customized DBI and that's is where the "store" comes in place, that third party put the store manually on the config files

It might or might not be trolling, I think only the author knows for sure. Either way, whoever doesn't like it is free to use other installers instead.

Just use Sphaira. Stay on 19.0.1, keep your mods working, sys-tweak and for new games use SAK to patch new games that need higher firmware.

The comment is true. There are issues for using the translated version!

As I said long time ago, malicious behavior from the developer and simply linguistic racism and discrimination. Nothing explains this, he's acting in bad faith.

Whoever used it/is using it, did it/is doing it on his own responsibility. I'd never use it after what he wrote a while ago.

Unfortunately, I find there are not a lot of choices for installers/rippers: in addition to being able to install/rip nsp, a good installer needs support for external drives with modern filesystems like exfat and ext4 (files larger than 4GB.) In my experience, DBI, Goldleaf, Sphaira all have their quirks; as far as I can find, no single application has robust external storage support--Goldleaf sees ext4 but not exfat, DBI sees some exfat drives but not others and no ext4 at all, Spaira has a confusing UI and as far as I can figure out only supports exfat--and all bets are off handling nsps ripped by other apps or found online.

In any case, the old version 658 of DBI is still good enough for most of what I want. I realize this is all a dodgy business and that bully thug corporations are throwing their weight around like never before...if someone develops the ultimate switch package installer, they might just keep it to themselves now.

The games often install and won't launch or they'll downright refuse to install due to some unknown error.

It's all the same cause your device is already tagged. The game will install but won't launch. Had to skip Plants vs Zombies lately.

Well then this is bascially a malware, everyone installing and using it should know what its author has done. I think that at this point GBAtemp's administration should reconsider keeping this malware in their download section. Absolutely malicious behavior from the developer.

From what I understood it's not. It's a trigger that this dev incorporated in his malware.
