Elden Ring's Nintendo Switch 2 port has been delayed

Touted initially as a release for 2025, Bandai Namco has announced the delay of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. The reasoning behind the delay is to allow for "performance adjustments", which do line up with initial gameplay footage from this year's Gamescom, showing the game running at slightly unstable framerates. For now, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for the Switch 2 will be out sometime next year.

Probably the right choice given how the game was performing. Nice to see a company push the release back instead of just adopting the "we'll fix it later" approach. Looking at you ATLUS, Persona 3 Reload feels ROUGH on Switch 2.

We haven't had a 3D DK since the N64, we haven't had a Kirby Air Rider since the Gamecube.

I don't care about Kirby, DK is the one game I say that's a killer app for the Switch 2 but so far that's it. It's still young though, but it will mostly be Mario and Zelda and sequels to games we got on Switch. There's different types of Marios though they don't feel the same and they're usually pretty innovative it's not a bad thing but we rarely see a new IP from Nintendo or even third party exclusive games like Astral Chain. We haven't heard a peep about Astral Chain 2 in years.

Probably wouldn't be necessary if Switch 2's CPU wasn't a huge bottleneck. Nintendo always going cheap with one component or another.
People complain if consoles are too powerful and expensive, people complain if consoles are underpowered and cheaper.

Hardware manufacturers don't give a shit about customers requests because of this.

Well in this case I'll complain about Switch 2 being underpowered and expensive. It's nearly the same cost as a regular PS5 and handheld games should not be $70. It wasn't that long ago 3DS games were $39.99 at launch.

On top of that the storage units for games are a mess due to the size of games physical games are kind of a joke on Switch 2.

Steam Deck is cheaper than Switch 2 and already runs Elden Ring just fine. Difference there being that Valve was willing to initially take a loss on hardware sales, whereas Nintendo demands a profit from every unit sold. The result is that we got a CPU which can't keep up with its GPU, and worse screen than even the Switch 1 LCD.

Complaining is stupid. If you want to protest, stop buying consoles AND games altogether. Companies couldn't care less about your opinion when you keep giving them your money,
Never buy first-hand anything related to the industry ever again, and then your complaints will have a meaning.

You are comparing a portable PC to a hybrid console, it makes zero sense. Specially when you just justified why your own point is dumb.

Atlus with P3R is what annoys me. Atlus directly admitted a few days before release that the port was rushed out

They at least said they were going to fix up the framerate inconsistency, which is good. It doesn't even seem like it's struggling for performance, it's consistent in its frame timing inconsistency around 30fps lol.

It makes no difference, Gamecube was more powerful than the competition for the same reason. Releasing more powerful hardware at a loss is almost always a winning move. Game sales make up for it in the short term, and in the long term the hardware becomes less expensive to manufacture. Switch 2's CPU will put it in the same position Switch has been in a couple years from now, ports of newer games will no longer be feasible, and ports of older games won't sell very well.

Nintendo released more powerful hardware than the competition during the fifth and sixth generations, and it didn't work out for them. It was only til the Wii was underpowered that they started to see results, specially billionaire results.
You are analyzing things from the perspective of a passionate outsider. Corporative minds of Nintendo and their shareholders don't agree, they know they can sell so they'll sell at higher prices. And developers will put anything into the console one way or the other, regardless if it works or no, if they see the machine selling big numbers.

True, Nintendo has conditioned their fan base into expecting less of everything for more money. I'm not sure that will pay off for them during this generation in particular though, as the price of everything else is going up too and wages are staying stagnant. My expectations for Switch 2 were already tempered, and it was still a bit of a let down.

Some, not all. And that's how we get back to games running at an unstable 30 FPS again.

That's another of the many problems in your analysis: you are talking about prices and wages WHERE YOU LIVE. Global corporations won't fix their prices and expectations just for you.

Some developers, not all. And some games run at unstable 30FPS, others run at stable 60 and more too.
