Heyo, been a minute since I commented on here, been having tons of fun with my newly modded Switch since getting the help I needed last time with setting it up (Thank you so much to everyone here who helped me with it, you guys rock!), but now I've got another question to ask. This is something I've been curious about for a while, and can't really find a clear answer for anywhere else:

Y'know how on OFW, if you don't have enough space on your SD card for a game you want,
so until you can get an SD with more storage, you kinda have to archive one of your other games to make room?

Well, is archiving a game on CFW, and then 'reinstalling' it with your old save file when you're ready to play again even possible the same way as it is with OFW?

I've been trying to put some game NSPs on my Switch through DBI only to get the 'Not enough space' messages, which is a bummer,
but then the realization came to me that I may or may not be able to just archive store away another game as easily as in OFW without somehow mistakenly getting caught just in case doing so requires internet usage (Which I know is a big NO-NO with modded Switches in case the big N-company catches the tiniest whiff of what you're doing).

I didn't wanna risk accidentally screwing stuff up, as I'm still pretty much a newbie to all of this, so I thought it'd be better to ask if doing so was safe first.

Is it possible at all, or should I just delete games I'm not currently playing to make room, install the games I wanna play now, and then invest in an SD with more space?
My current SD card is a 128 GB, in case anyone needs that information.

Also-Also...I tried to install an updated HATS pack, and I usually follow these instructions while doing so.

Quick question; when updating everything, do I need to delete the old Nintendo folder in emuMMC and copy/paste a new version in every time I update atmosphere/bootloader?
I ask, because while following those instructions like always, I deleted the old Nintendo folder and tried copy/pasting a new version of it, only to be hit with the 'Not enough space on SD card' message.

Whoops.
So am I screwed, or can this issue also be fixed somehow?

Sorry for this silly questions, I'm still learning how all this works!

Buy a larger SD card if you don't have enough space. Depending how you are installing the game, if you are copying the game to the SD card then install then you are wasting time and space, you should learn to do USB install via a usb cable and a computer.

No, actually.

Sound like problem is the port.

Well, that's kinda how I've been getting my games this whole time.

I was told to connect your Switch to your computer through USB cable, then click and drag your NSPs into the 'SD Install' folder through DBI when prompted. That's the only method I know of so far.

Is there another way to do it that's better than this way that I should know about?
If so, then do you know of any recommended guides I can follow along and learn with?

You are doing the install correctly, looks like you will need a larger SD card if you are getting not enough space message.

Ah, gotcha.

So I don't need to worry about trying to archive anything?
And the best solution to everything is to just get a larger SD card before getting anymore new games, yes?

And like I mentioned before, the previous copy of the Nintendo folder in emuMMC was one I mistakenly deleted (I really shouldn't've done that, but I realized what I did too late) while following the instructions of the guide I mentioned, and trying to put in the new HATS pack.

So far, everything is safe on OFW, which is great.

But when trying to open up a game in CFW, I'm hit with the 'Download necessary data' message.
I can't even get Homebrew to show up now when I do hold R, which is kinda worrying,
so I'm not sure if I can just redownload NSP updates from the place I usually get everything from and install through DBI anymore.

Is it safe to download the missing data through the prompts on CFW, or do I avoid that altogether,
and just wait for a bigger SD card before doing anything at all?

Just wanting to be sure before I do anything else reckless.

Sound like you are missing files , you can use HATS to fix the Album problem, as for download necessary data sound like you are missing require content for the game to run.

Hello!! Im sorta new here, hopefully someone can help me with my modded switch

I wanted to install Linux on my modchip switch, but when I did, I got the error "Board was not initialized properly! Hang prevented"

Looking it up, it seems to be a firmware issue with my modchip, and I should update it or try the HWfly so I can try again with the linux install. Problem is: I have no idea which modchip was installed, since I wasnt the one who did it, much less if its a flashable one.

I cant open my switch to check if its BGA FPGA IC or QFN FPGA on the board, since I got no tools to do so. So far Ive only managed to find out that currently I run the stock hardware (cause it got the rocketship little game when I boot without the SD Card), but it does not even indicate which version it is on.

Do I have a way to figure out which modchip I currently have on my switch? Or just to find out if its flashable or not?

Thanks in advance

Ah, yes, I know about that.

What I wanted to know was if all my save files for each game were still there or not, since I deleted the Nintendo folder in emuMMC by accident?

I can reinstall the needed updates for each game on CFW, as I know of a place that has all the updates, but since I can't currently open Homebrew, I can't get to DBI to add in those updates through the USB+ computer method.

And trying to copy/paste my Nintendo folder into emuMMC just gets me the 'No space in SD card' message.

What I'm asking is; Can I update everything by clicking the 'download' prompt for each game on CFW,
or is that not a good thing to do because it requires the EShop and being online?

If the answer to my issue is to just wait and get a bigger SD card, I can do that, no problem.
I was just wanting to know if all my old save files could be retrieved at all, or if I accidentally wiped everything?

If you deleted the emunand partition then the data is gone, unless you made backup with like JKSV or Checkpoint, the Nintendo folder is just installed content no the emulated NAND. Don't mix pirated content with Eshop/Nintendo server.

Hmm, I did manage to make a backup for some of my Pokémon games through JKSV, so I guess maybe I can restore those at least (Possibly!). Which is great, since those were the games I was most worried about, since I use PKHex.

My original emuMMC folder is still there, and so are the original emummc.ini and raw_based files.

But I guess once I can get an SD card with more space,
I can just copy/paste the remaining save files I do have and then start everything else over if I need to.
Kind of a bummer, but I don't really mind if the games were already lots of fun!

Thank you for the help, I'll see if I can try to sort this out!

If you have a hidden partition emunand it take some work to convert it to file base and move it.

Where I can find the 20.4.0 firmware files? I usually use darthsternie but I only see up to 20.1.0

You can grab it from THZoria github but be warn that firmware 20.x.x have less memory. Also have battery draining problem that can be fixed. So up to you if you want to update.

Hello Guys, I've experienced a problem, after trying to update firmware to 20.0 to play silksong, I did not pay attention and just pressed okay when i was in the all-in-on installer when it asked for the sd card format. I believe I accidentally pressed ExFat, while it should've been FAT32, or the opposite im not sure.
I updated the sigpatches, athmosphere, hekate. and was able to boot back into stockcfw, but I cant boot back into emuMMC. I think I may have ruined the sd-card and have to reformat it, im not sure. any advice would be appreciated.

I have an unpatched switch with atmosphere 1.9.4, hekate, sysmodule, sigspatches. "20.4.0|AMS 1.9.4|E".

I also installed:

https://gbatemp.net/download/sys-patch-sysmodule.39124/

following this guide:

Out of 10 .nsp games I got while sailing, 7 of them say "Software was closed due to an error" about 3 seconds into launching the game ( i see the intro screen loading for most games). 3/10 of the .nsp files actually boot and I can play. I boot using EMUMMC from the launch screen. I install the games using DBI via usb.

Things I've tried: reinstalling everything using HATS pack but still saw the same error. I've probably formatted and reinstalled everything from the steps above about 10 times and always see the same issue

Am I maybe doing something wrong?

I dont think my .nsp file is the issue, is that the most likely case? The games I'm trying to play are all nitendo mario games like Super Mario Party Jamboree, Super Mario Maker 2, etc. I've installed Super Mario Party Jamboree from two different sources and both failed

Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

also do people ever downgrade? I feel like 20.4.0 might be unstable

firmware 20.4.0 has problem when Salty NX and Mission Control enable it, which HATS come with them, cause problem for games that need more memory, so try to remove those two sysmodules.
