Nintendo Switch Online retro catalog sees two new GBA games added this month

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack users are getting two new-old titles this month. Mr. Driller 2 and Klonoa Empire of Dreams are headed to the service. Both will be available starting September 25th.

KLONOA™ Empire of Dreams: The ruler of a distant empire suffers from a serious case of sleepless nights. In his torment, Emperor Jillius passes a law forbidding his loyal subjects from ever dreaming again! One morning, our hero Klonoa and his friend Huepow find themselves in front of the emperor, charged with dreaming of adventure. As punishment for their crimes, they must defeat the four monsters that plague the lands.Play as Klonoa and take down enemies with the ever-trusty Wind Bullet. Solve puzzles and collect helpful items like stars as you jump your way through 40 incredible stages! Help Klonoa in his journey to redeem himself and find out just why dreams have become so taboo...

Mr. Driller™2Join Susumu and Anna as a mysterious outbreak of Blocks threatens the world's existence once more. Armed with a mighty drill, dig deep through multicolored blocks until you reach safety. Not all blocks will be breakable, so be careful that the blocks you break don't cause others to fall on you or cut off your Air Supply! Scramble to grab air capsules for a recharge, and you'll be just fine to reach your goal. How deep can you dig underground? Drill to your heart's content in three modes: Mission Driller, Endless Driller, and Time Attack Driller!

Klonoa on the GBA was the first one I ever played, and it's so different from the regular platformer ones, but still great.

A shame Nintendo keeps drip feeding with games on the NSO instead of just opening the market for companies sell them as Virtual Console games... but this is old talk by now.

Well, kinda weird but it is a gigantic step compared to the other games that nobody ever asked. These two at least are interesting and welcome.

But man, that insanely slow drop is driving me crazy.

I'll be honest, those are two great GBA games, but really... Just 2 GBA roms? That's disappointing.

I think N64 is even worse, what is it... 1 game per month?

Just download the roms.

I'm just here to show my support for Klonoa, though I hear the Mr. Driller games are a good time.
I'd love a new Klonoa game I wonder how the sales of the Klonoa Collection went.

I remember playing a Mr. Driller demo and that for me felt like more than plenty. Drill, drill, drill, baby! 🤣

I recently discovered RetroAchievements. You can sign in to your account in your emulator of choice, like Retroarch, and it can track unique achievements that the community creates for your favourite classic games.

I've NEVER been an achievement hunter, but for games I've played literally a hundred times since childhood, it's so nice to be able to play through them differently, with the objective of unlocking achievements and making it to the leaderboards in games that support time trials (automatically starts whenever you start a level).

Why do I bring this up? Because Nintendo is drip feeding a couple ROMs every few months and barely even has any shaders or overlays to make the games look to your liking, let alone achievements. And the GBA games require an even more expensive subscription to access. The online is also terrible, vs Netplay or Parsec/Steam Remote Play. It just makes me wish they actually put effort into these services. I know Nintendo never had achievements in their games, but even within the app they could have some objectives or something. Give us something to put up with using your service, myNintendo Platinum coins or something, otherwise I'm just going to go back to Retroarch etc.

Y’know, say what you will about Nintendo, but I’m happy that I get to experience the other GB games I didn’t own as a kid.
You can say this all you want, but being drip-fed 1-2 games every couple of months on a pay-per-month service where you just rent the games is way worse than just offering these for purchase for $4.99 so you can just get the ones you want. I have Super Metroid on my 3DS because I bought it YEARS ago. And it's never going away.
