Randy Pitchford tells those suffering from performance problems with Borderlands 4 to just refund the game

Borderlands 4 is out, to rave reviews, except for the fact that players on both console and PC are experiencing noticeable amounts of performance issues. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been defensive of such claims, writing a lengthy post on X about how there are "real issues" but they're only "affecting a very, very small percentage of users". That stance appears to go against the Steam user reviews of those who have played the game, as Borderlands 4's reception is "mixed" across over 20,000 reviews. Even those on console are upset over performance problems, particularly on the PlayStation 5 Pro, where the game has a known issue of running worse the longer you play it, likely the result of a memory leak.

It is a mistake to believe or expect that PCs between minimum specification and recommended specification can achieve all of extremely high frame rate, maximum/ultra features, and extremely high resolution. If that last post makes you have a negative reaction, I bet you have emotions and expectations that you feel aren’t sufficiently attended to. I’m sorry.

Hundreds of users are speaking up about how the game is not well optimized, as user-made mods have sprung up to make the game more stable. Pitchford's comments have come off as flippant and have sparked outrage amongst the community, as he pointed out that players needed to accept that their PCs might not be good enough to run Borderlands 4, and if they do have "real" issues, they should just refund the game and wait.

Those who pre-ordered or bought it at release are real suckers. You ought to know better in 2025. I skipped it for the price alone but that's another matter.

BUT... even if they patch it properly or not, I'll play the hell out of it down the road for sure. Once I feel it's worth it.

"just refund the game" while knowing that console gamers can't refund their games as easily as steam LMAOOO
Honestly, if there's a memory leak issue on the PS5 version of the game?
Sony might as well pull a Cyberpunk 2077 type situation again and delist Borderlands 4 until its fixed.

they should do that tbh + they need a better refund system, because they won't refund you if you downloaded the game, even if you didn't open it once,,, but that a topic for another time

It really is amazing to see CEOs demonstrate that they are in fact just normal people. Like, i think anyone with the slightest experience, just pick a random person on this random forum, could come up with a better response than this.

"We are aware of the issues that some are facing, and working hard to resolve them. Please bear with us as we work through the launch period".

Its generic and took all of five seconds, but who cares, the bar is literally just "don't say that people talking about this have emotional issues". Look, I'll write for the CEO if you want, real cheap, just 0.5% of his salary. My resume is that I won't insult your customers.

Randy sounds like the kind of businessman who pretends to know the PC space and the wide range of performance seen in gaming setups, but only sees PC gamers as those with enough $$$ to buy something better than current-gen consoles and then some. Not everyone is going to buy a console just to avoid shitty PC releases, and not everyone is content with enabling fake frame-gen.

"Premium game for premium gamers" is especially telling. Yes, the game has a high price, but its gameplay and graphics do not warrant such premium hardware to run (or better said, crawl).

Oh look, another day, another Raunchy Bitchfork statement to be yeeted straight into the blast furnace.

Can the guy ever shut up? He has singlehandedly made the franchises he owns or is a part of less desireable than ever before. Never before have I seen so many people dislike or outright despise Borderlands, and me and my friends were in for it all the way up to Pre-Sequel. Anything after Pre-Sequel has been nothing but a disaster, thanks in large to Raunchy Bitchfork.

Dude, do yourself, your company, your assets, and not least of all your employees, who directly are affected by what you say, a damn favour: Shut up if all you ever do is shit talk your customers. Yes, customers, not "consoomers", because we aren't cows to milk. Or at least, most of us aren't, even though I realize that some sadly behave in that way.

he pointed out that players needed to accept that their PCs might not be good enough to run Borderlands 4,
Pitchford...

Does the PS5 Pro also fit in the "Maybe your console isn't powerful enough to run the game" issue or is it just time to accept that YOUR GAME IS UNOPTIMIZED AS SHIT?
