New mod called Fallout: Bakersfield aims to recreate Fallout 1 in DOOM's engine
The Fallout series is no stranger to mods--even prior to its days running on the easily-modded Bethesda Studios Gamebryo engine, dedicated fans have been creating projects since the 1990s. The latest fanwork comes from "Red888guns", or Alexander Berezin, who is attempting to take a section from Fallout 1 and recreate it in FPS style using DOOM's engine. Berezin has a history with modding Fallout, having worked on Fallout: Sonora and Olympus 2207, both massive modifications to Fallout 2.
This project, titled Fallout: Bakersfield, has received a trailer showcasing the massive work put into taking DOOM 1993's style and mixing it with the aesthetic of the original Fallout game. The trailer goes through iconic parts of the city of Necropolis, featuring gory mutilations, dialog with a Super Mutant, and the highly stylized post apocalyptic look of the California wasteland. At the end of the video, it teases a release window for the GZDoom WAD for sometime in 2027.
