A new Nintendo Switch firmware update is available to download. System software version 20.1.5 has been pushed out to systems, and you'll never believe what's in the patch notes. This new firmware adds--you guessed it--general system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience. For now, it's not exactly certain what this update really changed under the hood, so keep an eye on the usual sources before you update your Nintendo Switch.

Ver. 20.1.5 (Released June 18, 2025)

General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Tested on S2:
  • currently it's just a facultative update
  • E-Shop and online games still work on 20.1.1.
  • without DNS Blocker set up there will be a nagging window
  • deletable in Recovery Mode as usual

You're saying it's deletable via Restore Settings?

I'd like to update my Switch 1 cartridges, but I dunno now as I've never done that.

No need to touch Restore Settings. Downloaded (but not installed yet) updates are deleted automatically by powering the console off in Recovery Mode.

I kinda doubt that 20.1.1 -> 20.1.5 would be an eFuse version, but with Nintendo you never know.
I do get that they want system parity, so the frequent updates make sense. Makes me wonder how long they'll support both systems.

Apologies if someone already said it, but with this update Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting collection is now compatible with Switch 2
