Third party games not selling very well...

It's a ridiculous and misleading post - the console has only been out for 2 weeks.
A lot of media members have an axe to grind because they didn't get press review units, the same author made an article a couple of weeks ago saying how it would hurt third party sales - and now he put this story out to support it.

It's a pretty BS article. Because this says otherwise:

Don't forget the Switch 2 has only been out for 2 weeks. You expect folks to bulk buy several third-party games after buying an entirely new console?

Sales would be a lot better if the damn cartridges weren't empty.

it's not surprising, considering a lot of the third-party line-up is either 2-5 years old at this point and has either been on the switch 1 and/or other platforms already. the price points and them being game key only versions don't help much either, along with the fact it's only been a couple of weeks. on the other hand, cyberpunk on the switch 2 has been pretty successful, while of little interest to me and likely other players who have owned the game for years, there's clearly a market for popular titles previously inaccessible on the switch 1.

realistically, most people won't be buying a switch 2 for third-party games, third-party title sales are generally drawn in as add-on sales once an abundance of first-party titles make a system a must-buy, which is really not that much different from what we've seen with other generations.

it's only been a few weeks since the switch 2 came out, and while i really like MKW, the launch titles overall felt underwhelming to me personally, so imo we'll just have to wait and see what else is on the way if we want to see third-party support flourish.

Most people don't buy the S2 to play those games anyway, I know I don't. Unless you're like a friend of mine, who only even have Nintendo consoles and nothing else through out his life. Guy is hook on Cyberpunk atm.

As others are saying, kind of no brainer, they are older titles that have been out on other platform for years and most likely still play better there, why would you buy them, I get the Switch for the exclusives.

It's also the fact that these are games that have been out for quite some time on other platforms. The real test will be seeing how well third-party games with simultaneous launches on Switch 2 sell.
Yes, but the fact they're GKC doesn't help at all. I'd love to own the NS2 version of Bravely Default, except you know why.

I do hope the fact that a lot of these games are keycards affect the sales negatively - but honestly I doubt many people really care, or know better.

I personally did skip out on buying a few of these because they were keycards.

I think the fake physical is a part of it but only a small part. The majority of Nintendo fans probably couldn't care less, although I do believe the physical collector crowd is growing rapidly for Switch 1.

It's got to be mainly due to the fact they are all old games that are much cheaper elsewhere. I agree the article is unfair though because it would only be newsworthy if these were all new games and still selling poorly.

Not sure this is really a factor for the majority of people purchasing the device. Sure, it might be a factor for a small subset of people who are considering the purchase, but I feel like this is an easily neglected amount. I think the availability and quality of switch 2 exclusive games might be more of a deciding factor. There really is no pressing need for anyone to buy the device unless you're crazy about any of the exclusives. I mean, the damn youtube app doesn't even work on the device yet, nor do any of the other popular media streaming apps, but they still work on the OG switch. So I don't really see people in a hurry to replace their switch with a more expensive version that actually does less at the moment.

The game key cart suck for sure, but I doubt this is having a noticeable impact on the sales. Again, a large chunk of consumers are good with digital downloads, a smaller but still sizable chunk is apathetic, and the minority cares enough to actually not buy those kind of releases.

Personally, I think it's an essential purchase for anyone that already has a big collection of Switch games. It's actually weird how the Switch sold so well considering how poorly many ganes performed.

Who would have thought that selling old ports of games that most people interested have probably already played at full price wouldn’t work? The game key part isn’t even that relevant, since most people either don’t know about it or don’t care. They should focus on Switch exclusives or more recent titles instead and then they will sell. I wouldn't wonder if Fast Fusion is doing great, I certainly will buy it in the next weeks.

That theory doesn't work because Cyberpunk is quite a few years old and is selling very well, and even with the switch many ports of older games had respectable numbers. Not everyone can afford multiple consoles - for many consumers the Switch/Switch 2 may be their only device for gaming.

The article is junk anyway, how can you come to a conclusion two weeks after a console release, the crux of his argument seems to be that mario kart is selling way more than anything else on the console, like duh
