Donkey Kong Bananza Direct - roundup

We finally get to learn more about Donkey Kong Bananza. DK and kid Pauline will team up together in the game, which takes place underground, in order to return back to the surface. It'll have large open levels, and DK can climb walls and break through the level terrain. Rolling, tearing chunks off the ground, and throwing large objects are all new abilities you can use. Cranky and Rambi return, too. Pauline's singing can transform DK into a bunch of different animal forms. The big bads of this game are called the Void Gang. There is voice acting, as Pauline has speaking lines.

There are hidden collectibles, found through exploration or challenges. There are Country-style 2D sections in these challenge courses. The game has a skill tree, where you can power up different aspects of DK. Costumes, ala Super Mario Odyssey, return, where you can dress DK and Pauline up. A second player can control Pauline on Donkey Kong's back, who can shout attacks at enemies.

Amiibo support is in the game. There will be a new DK and Pauline amiibo. The game launches July 17.

What in the world did I just submit my eyes and ears to? 🤨

Kid Pauline is an interesting choice, but the transformations are... a little disturbing, TBH. Not sure I like the direction that the Donkey Kong series is going.

Also, remember when Pauline used to NOT sing? That was less annoying. I guess we're expanding on the lore of the Super Mario Odyssey Pauline, instead of Pauline before she had more vocal work done.

I miss the old Donkey Kong already. Please bring back the Rare design.

This should've been the launch game for Switch 2, then y'all would've been less bitter about it.

Why, for a DK game which other than DK64, is pretty much rehashing the same game over and over.

Buggery me, its nintendo, all of their so called excellent first party titles are the same thing and has been for decades.

They've gotten that lazy now that they're even directly porting their same old shit and slapping false claims of enhancing them.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this is Mario Odyssey with a DK skin?
Yeah idk man, the worlds/levels doesn't look nearly as good as the ones from Odyssey, also the main gameplay does not look as fun, only thing that captured my interest was the challenges. I 100% disagree with everyone who says this game feels like Odyssey, because for me that is an insult, but for each their own i guess.

has nintendo announced anything else coming soon for the switch 2 besides donkey kong. This looks cool but not cool enough to buy a switch 2. They need to be announcing or releasing more games if they want to increase interest beyond the fanboys that already bought their switch 2's
It's true, I'm surprised a new Mario hasn't been announced, but I get the strategy.

Nintendo wanted Mario Kart World at the forefront because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the Switch's best-selling game. Donkey Kong's game was next in line because, once Mario/Zelda sequels are announced, all attention will shift.

Everyone knows they're coming, so it makes sense to build up to it.

cringiest most american superlative-soapy disneyesc voice ever

Game = collection of features. confirms my feeling of a technical sandbox demo lost in a boxticking contest. Most uninspired game ever.

Multiple types of currencies + the UI that look like smartphone free to play / pay to win shitty games.

What a tragedy.

It is 100% from the Odyssey team that can't be more certain. But the overall gameplay is VERY different.

I played this game at the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience, and I can 1000% confirm that this game uses the same engine as that game as well. Might as well call it Super Mario Oddysey 2: Donkey Kong Bananza
