The MIG Switch reportedly does not work on the Nintendo Switch 2

sotch2.png

With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 today, one of the first things homebrew enthusiasts set out to do was see if the MIG Switch flashcart would work on the console. Prior to release, retailers of the flashcart were claiming that it worked with the Switch 2, but thanks to the efforts of users on GBAtemp, it appears that it in fact does not work. Beginning with the post in this thread, here, with a photo of a Switch 2 and MIG Switch resulting in an error code. Whether or not there is a workaround or fix is uncertain. Furthermore, a MIG Switch retailer posted about having a Switch 2 unit a month ahead of launch, stating that the unit worked, with what appear to be misleading claims. The potentially shady practices shown here.

Let's be honest here: who ACTUALLY expected a MIG Switch to work on the Switch 2?

At the very most, it would work only in a limited mode, loading only Switch 1 ROMs, as Switch 2 cartridges are faster than Switch 1 ones.

i never expected switch 2 carts to work on it, i dont see why switch1 wont with an update though, most switch 2 games arent even going to be on the carts so i doubt those will work ever

I wonder 1: what the problem was, and 2: how did they figure it out

I guess since they are just emulating a legit game card and the switch is wide open, they probably just had to re-examine how the switch 1 is reading games and look for any small differences between how a real game works and how mig switch actually worked. it was probably a little thing that was overlooked because it used to work despite that

for the speed of switch 2 games there are microsd express

This means a new linker that works with Express card once some security is bypassed for switch 2

of course they would why would they spend more $ making it actually run better when they can make it leech off the half assed switch hardware!

They can still be more powerful than Switch 1 or a normal SD card, in any case we will see how it evolves.
If the games are in the same format as the 1st, a linker should see the light of day faster than with the 1st.

we'll see
Switch 1 games load faster on the Switch 2. But just barley. So its more up to the cpu and ram speed than the read speed.

You may not believe me but after seeing how lowlevely the behaviour of MiG Switch was... I thought... "hmmm, this may well work in a Switch 2", then I saw it failing but kinda working and... I speculated it may be updateable to meet the required quirks...

That is true but, Ninjas for sure got some MIGs and reverse engineering it more quickly than anybody. so they know now how MIG works better than MIG Team, so they are capable to differentiate from original cartdriges

probably, if it failed to load games on switch 2 then it wasnt working as well as it should have and should have been detectable on switch 1. but I think it's in their best interest to only ban those who use it for piracy (by detecting if unique cartridge data is being used by thousands of people), because the ones who arent pirating are still buying their games legally and aren't really hurting anyone. and maybe nintendo also sees it that way

that and if you ban even the non pirates, that will just encourage them to stop buying nintendo tbh

I can confirm that this thread and my own post it linked is no longer true. I will begin to enjoy my MIG switch on my Switch 2 and report back if my system gets banned
