We are just one day away from the new Nintendo console hitting store shelves, and in preparation for the release, Nintendo has released the Day One update for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, bringing several features previously unveiled on the Switch 2 Direct, as well as finally unlocking the device for users to play with the console.

The update number correlates with that of the Nintendo Switch 1, following the same versioning scheme from it, with update v20.1.1 now available for download for on the Switch 2 console, same as with the original Switch v20.1.1 update that was released just yesterday.
The official changelog for the Switch 2 update 20.1.1 includes the following:
  • Use of Nintendo Switch software
  • Nintendo Switch Online
  • Game Chat
  • Share communication
  • Full transfer
  • Virtual Game Cards
  • Nintendo eShop
  • Game news
  • Upload function for screenshots and videos to the server
  • Linkage with smartphone apps “Nintendo Parental Controls Switch” and “Nintendo Switch App”, etc.
    • “Nintendo Switch App” is required to view screenshots and videos uploaded to the server.
For details on each function, please see the Nintendo website.
  • With some exceptions, linkage with a Nintendo Account is required to use network functions.
  • The system must be updated if you want to use Nintendo Switch 2 software provided with a game key card.
  • The system must be updated if you want to use a microSD Express card.
  • When you connect to the Internet during the initial setup of the system, you will be prompted to update the system, and if you try to use a function from the HOME menu, etc., a guide will be displayed on the screen if a system update is required.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the system.
Additionally, Nintendo has also released updates for a slew of first party Switch 1 titles in preparation for the Switch 2 release, usually optimizations for the games to handle high resolutions and also support for Switch 2's HDR, while others do have further changes to make better use of the Switch 2 hardware, like in the case of the exclusive features for BotW or TotK.
Some of first party titles that received updates recently are the following:
  • ARMS
  • Big Brain Academy: Brain VS Brain
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
  • Game Builder Garage
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet
  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Remake)
  • Kirby's Dream Buffet
  • Kirby Star Allies
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe
  • Super Mario 3D All-Stars
  • Super Mario Wonder
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
With just mere hours before the console is finally out, players can begin preparing to migrate all their Switch games into the upcoming console, for those interested in upgrading, and with the latest firmware update for Switch 2, users with the console already in their hands since days ago can now finally start delving into the console proper.

There are people (read as non-thieves) that not only installed the update, but are streaming right now on the usual platforms including Youtube. Yes, even the older games run much better on Switch 2. The launch is going perfectly so far (it's June 5th in Asia and New Zealand/Australia) and this must really, seriously piss off Sony fanbois and the incels who whine about "greedy Nintendo." The haters/whiners are going to be drowned out by happy Switch 2 owners this week.

I find it hilarious that some of you are buying one and not updating it waiting for a hack to allow you to steal that will never come. Since you have plenty of time on your hands, consider reading Waiting for Godot while you wait.
delusional

lmfao, so essentially what your buying is a blank tablet that refuses everything unless you download its update (os/sw1emulator).

These other so called updates claiming for its HD screen, ehhh???? Its a cheap nasty 1080p display, which wasn't the sw1 also runnin upto. As for HDR then thats utter blx as it should be its screen that handles it, not per game basis.

Id love to see this plastic carpet try running its games in 4k ohhh and its claim of 120fps.

We can already guess Nintendo milking the cash cow by crapping out the same shit.
OLED model
Lite model
Lite model OLED
120fps capable screen
Bigger screen model

All to play the same old recycled Nintendo shit and old third party ported games, lacking new third party games due yo its inferior hardware as usual, so Nintendo have no competition.

Exactly why they shut down sw1 emulators because these so called sw1 remasters recycled over to sw2, erm...... We can get better via emulating its sw1 version, thus proving its just a fucking recycled Port only running slightly better because its on slightly getter hardware.

I really wish Nintendo fanboys would wake up and see sense, stop funding this dictating company, we shouldn't need to buy exclusive inferior over priced hardware just to play the same Nintendo recycled shit snd old inferior third party titles.
You're an idiot & clearly know absolutely nothing about technology. You know nothing about hdr & your comment proves that. It's already been stated that Switch 2 can not do 120fps & 4k at the same time. Nintendo didn't shut down Switch emulators, Yuzu developers violated piracy laws & Ryujinx main developer sold out. You're complaining about a console not having exclusive software when it launches. You do realize PS4 didn't have exclusives when it launched & didn't have any meaningful exclusives for years right?

Shh.... let him think he knows how technology and game design works, he won't even check the replies calling him out so he can keep complaining about shit he knows nothing about while simultaneously making a texture pack that's very erroneously called a "Remaster" that requires you to play the exact same game again on an emulator (while complaining "Nintendo makes the same exact same games again and again" lol)

"The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Remake)"

If this game still has random slowdowns on switch 2, then ninty really doesn't do optimization right
Theres no real reason for it not to still run like crap. Without an update it will probably run more or less the exact same as it did on Switch 1.

The only solution for this would be a hard ban on this guy (it's practically a long time coming with how little their posts actually contribute to every thread they inflict themselves to), but that would mean less posts and therefore less engagement.
The best solution to not see the posts of someone is to click on their profile picture and then on "ignore." The only way you get to see their posts then is if someone who didn't do this replies to them. And even then they're hidden, so you'd have to willingly reveal them.

Shit I'm 2nd in line at best buy for the midnight drop. 6 hours early and I am 2nd lmao reminds me of the good old days. This is how all new releases should be. None of the online preorder bot fest shit.

I mean fair, but on the other hand, it doesn't change much of the fact that it's still there and if they have no value to a thread.... well you're just sidestepping the issue because it's a useless contribution that uses server space that could be used on infinitely better things, including more meaningful discussion, just that only a set amount of people that went far enough to use the button you use for shit like people harassing you just so they don't have to have the unsightly privilege to be inflicted by it anymore rather than it being the standard.

If there was a global "If you have nothing to say, don't post" rule that was actively held up, we wouldn't have this problem to begin with.

People already hated Nvidia for blocking reviews before launch of the 5060 by trying to not release a driver until the things were showing up on store shelves. But because it's Nintendo doing it, it's somehow okay? Yeah, nah.
They're working with Nvidia still, so this is just par for the course for the two big Ns, even more so that this is 2020s Nvidia, so they're too busy trying to follow the AI bubble rather than the gaming audience they've spent almost 30 years, including famously making a slightly better version of an existing GPU for the original Xbox, so any expectation that they make actually good Gaming hardware that's better than the previous generation without any fake frame bullshit like DLSS went out the window long, long ago.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars updated? Lmao. I'm sure the emulation is still bad. Full of input lag and the Super Mario 64 sound emulation is so bad.

Will cartdrige games load without updating? Trying to figure out if thats actually the case. Any real evidence around of someone not going online running MKW or TOTK for ex?

PS. Nvm. Found one brazillian dude that claims it works. Hard to decide if to update for features or not...

Last edited by flopsy,
My preorder says "in progress". If I don't get it today I'll be pretty bummed. Millions of people enjoying Switch 2 without me :(

If any of you tempers own a Switch 2, please let me know if the performance in Scarlet and Viloet improves. If not then say goodbye to my hands
rock solid everywhere

Post automatically merged:

People are saying that it runs at a solid 60fps, but I I'll wait for someone to get their hands on one before doing the test
i live in australia, had mine for nearly 12 hours

Oh, well. Missed my chance. Should have waited outside the NEX for it to open, but silly me… went to work on time. They only had 150 consoles, and sold out pretty much immediately.

And now I must get Xenoblade3, honestly all of the Xenoblade games need the upgrade. Got my Gamestop S2, now I wait for Walmart's delivery. erm.. the possible hacked S2 that is

Switch 2 LAUNCHED today, so y'all talk about Switch 2.

I got it at Best Buy today, also they make you to be in line, even if you have pick-up. I waited more than 1 hour in line with 100+ customers.

Best Buy is out of Cyberpunk 2077 and they got low prints, so I was like no big deal. The console is more important than game.

Damn. Bravely Default was the one that got sold out for me. I did grab Cyberpunk and Tears of the kingdom(S1 physical)
I'm bummed out that the 512gb express cards are nowhere to be found. My mistake for not placing a pre order on that.
