"Toys For Bob", the company behind the Spyro remakes, is interested in working on Banjo Kazooie

The company behind the (somewhat) recent remakes of both the original Spyro the Dragon remakes (which were handled as a fully remade trilogy), Toys For Bob, have recently responded to some questions regarding their upcoming projects and plans in an interview with the YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh.

Toys For Bob co-studio head and creative director, Paul Yan, was the direct contact for this interview by Canadian Guy, in which he answered a handful of questions made by Canadian Guy related to their recent changes within the company, their upcoming projects and also possible plans for the upcoming future, as well as franchises and IPs they'd like to work on next.

To start off, the very first thing of interested from Toys for Bob is that the company has gone fully independent, meaning they don't depend on or are owned by any larger company (as they were before under Activision) and can now work on their own lease and time, with the due responsibilities that this brings. And while the physical studio was no longer there after the several lay-offs that happened years ago under Activision, most of the people involved in the company worked remotely when they saw no need for a physical space. Additionally, TFB being independent also means they can work on create their own IPs or franchises, and even work with other companies with either existing IPs or new ones as well.

Going back to that last point, Paul Yan expressed his excitement for Toys For Bob to be working alongside Microsoft, or Team Xbox as they called it on the video, citing the following:
Paul Yan said:
That's one of the exciting new possibilities of being independent.
One company we'd like to work with is one we're already working with, Team Xbox.
They've been a great partner, and they also have a very interesting roster of characters that Toys For Bob could have a lot of fun with.

The Honey Bear is the first one that comes to mind.
I think we all can agree that Banjo's been hibernating long enough, right?

There's no doubt that TFB and Microsoft have already talked about the possibility of revitalizing the long dormant Banjo Kazooie franchise, but as to whether or not TFB and Microsoft have reached any kind of deal or agreement to either remake the original duology of beloved platformers, or if they will work on a new entry, or if they will even work with the Banjo franchise at all, is still unknown.

Paul Yan wrapped up the interview mentioning that they are in the "thick of development" at the moment, and they their next game will be a "big and ambitious and pushed our craft to new heights".

I recall them expressing their desire of making a BK game before.

I have mixed feelings about this. If this goes through, I hope is a sequel rather than a remake, because I don't think they can do justice on the later.

Yes please. Remasters are all well and good but i think Banjo deserves a full remake. And I'm not sure if even Rare could do the series justice nowadays. I've lost all faith in them.

Yeah, why not? I liked the game a lot but I didn't finish it due to the N64 camera.

Lost all interest at that line :(

a remaster compilation with dk64 and banjo kazooie + tooie would be cool, just make some changes to dk64 to improve some of the things that were painful and you have a pretty solid game. and it goes well with the banjo ones in a compilation

Sadly, Rare's games on MS's hands have become pure crap.
Like every other game studio to be working under Microsoft, they're ran into the ground because Microsoft is ran by idiots that are clueless to what the console market needs.

As a leading OS company thanks to its mainstream for basic office needs and home users, it prints money.

The idiots thought entering the console market will win them easy money, but from day they've lacked the ability to get a good bond with game devs other than the usual third party titles.

As for first party, they took over Rare and ran them into the ground, killing off Banjo Kazzoie with its terrible Nuts N Bolts game.

Then came Perfect Dark then came other basic crap games and ruined Conker (apart from CBFD:R with the same game breaking bug as the N64 version).

They ruined it with Remedy buying exclusive rights to Alan Wake and preventing them from making Alan Wake 2.

This only came possible because Microsoft has forgotten to renew its licensing rights to the games audio, thus Remedy snatched its ownership back by buying the rights.

All Microsoft think about is selling more consoles than Sony and beating PlayStation sales.

Failing to get the very basic requirement of making a console sell, is games.

Sony not only come out with better first party titles, they also have a good relationship with third parties getting multi platform games and also working with them for exclusive rights.

So Microsoft think throwing shit loads of money to buy one of the biggest game studios that have multiple titles that sell millions of copies.

Again, thinking this will print money and had tried to make them exclusive to its own console and digital only platform which Microsoft from day one wanted to block gamers using second hand games, this is their Plan B.

They cant even make reliable consoles, trying to copy off Apple having one OS, they force Windows into a console and half of the time it cant even tell your game is physical not digital.

After finding out they cant turn Activision titles as exclusive they agree to go third party, massive failure in their plans to dominate console sales.

Then have to re coup it's wasted money by making its exclusive titles third party.

So now proves theirs no point in Microsoft even trying to be in the console market and hopefully don't run Activision into the ground like they have everyone else.

Because from day one they've failed to create new game ideas and will definitely fail if they were to release their crap as third party games.

Considering the way they animated Spyro and gang in Reignited Trilogy, I'd die to see their takes on Banjo&Kazooie and their gang + world. They'd really help bring the kind of living cartoon vibe to life from the classics (at least better than Nuts & Bolts did)

Watching Microsoft make decisions has truly been a spectacle.

They had a solid showing with the OG Xbox, and that was partially due to Halo being a hit. The 360 was a great follow-up, especially with its online infrastructure for online multiplayer and XBLA. Going to market earlier than the PS3 and Wii was a smart move, and it ended the gen a close third to the PS3.

The Xbox One is where they began to falter. First, they announced the emphasis on digital, scaring consumers away. Beyond that, I think they simply failed to provide enough exclusives. Meanwhile, Sony was securing tons of exclusives for the PS4.

I'm not even sure what to say about the Xbox Series S/X. The confusing name structure, the lack of marketing, the lack of exclusives, and the unexpected emphasis on PC ports. The Dev Mode was a nice touch, but it didn't build enough goodwill on its own.

How they've managed their studio acquisitions is depressing.

I mean, Microsoft owns the Banjo IP since the 2000s, they have to be involved no matter what company makes the new games.

Thing is who Microsoft might work with to handle the Banjo IP, it does need a resurgence of sorts, and I think having a proper remake of both Kazooie and Tooie in a similar vein to the Spyro trilogy would be the perfect way to reintroduce them in the modern era, and then work an Threeie as an original title after the remakes.

Their next project is a collab with Microsoft, so here's hoping!

I'd rather have a Banjo Threeie over a remake, since Kazooie and Tooie are already available on the Xbox One and Series (just needs a port to other systems).

I remember reading something about them wanting to make a current port of space station silicon valley
Yeah, I remember that. Though, that would depend on Rockstar Games more than anything, since they own the IP.
