Do you all use uStealth to get a second HDD working for wii games? I was encountering this exact problem ever since I started using uStealth, and it showed up specifically after I wup installed a wii u game with a ustealth drive still connected. Even after I stopped using that uStealth drive the problem still persisted.

Fast forward to now, I've just setup all of my homebrew on another wii u without ever touching ustealth, and gamecube injects work perfectly fine. No blackscreens, boots normally 100% of the time.
I long since stopped trying to get this to work but I have never used uStealth. It just never worked for me right from the start.

This post is dead but for any future readers dont listen to the “install to nand or usb doesn’t matter” None of my GameCube or Wii games worked for weeks, a lightbulb clicked and I moved them to the nand and now they’re all working flawlessly.

Sounds like your usb device is dying, dead or not powered enough.

Please do not give out false advice if you have not fully tested your device as usb devices do and will work as long you have the correct setup and have done so for many years now. Many people may not have the option to install to nand only so call it BS is highly misguided.

I recommend you get a new hdd that is powered and report your results.

Ive tried all 5 of my usbs all different sizes (mostly sandisk) and not a single 1 will launch a gamecube or wii u game. 100 percent my brand new usb is not dying, that's complete bs. It’s highly documented that usb is not recommended for wii mode on the wii u as wii mode doenst allow you to draw enough power. Officially released vc wii games on a non modded wii u wont launch off usb theres tons of post on the forums about it. Which makes sense as literally EVERY non wii mode/wii u mode game i play on usb plays flawless (ds, gba, even wii u games). It doesn't matter if some people cant install to nand, thats their only option besides maybe an external ssd or a Y connector to bring enough power to your usb(which is hit and miss) But what i said was not incorrect, wii and gamecube games CAN NOT be played off usb. And switching them to nand DOES WORK. The fact that you can work around it by buying a Y plug doemst change the fact that you cant just plug in a usb and use it for wii mode games. You saying usb does in fact work and mines just dying will just confuse people looking at these post womdering why it wont work off their flash drive and THATS bs and misguided. So yes, what i replied to was BS.

Also back in the day when this was made rhe problem probably was something else, but that was fixed in an update years ago. Nowadays if it’s not working it’s cause youre using a usb and it’s not getting enough power. As usb power is limited while in wii mode. The old glitch could be bypassed by laucnhing vwii once backing out then loading the inject. This verison of the blackscreen is only fixed by moving to nand or using a usb powered by a Y cord. Its fact. Done commenting on this thread

@ZenDepature01 The 500 mA power limit is the same, no matter if Wii U or vWii mode. If your drive is underpowered that's completely your fault and you will get issues in Wii U mode, too.

AND the Y-cable isn't the only solution, self powered enclosures do exist, which bypass the power draw issues (and almost always compatibility as well) completely. Another win is no practical strain on puny Wii/WiiU powerbricks.

Just mentioning this once again, as people seemingly got blindsided by the Y-cables.
