A new Luma3DS update has been released. This will allow you to use prototype 3DS units, in particular the 3DS used during E3 2010 (with the addition of EmuNAND support).

v13.3
  • Add support for prototype firmwares (in particular the one used at E3 2010), including EmuNAND support (by @Wack0)
  • Fix volume override for applets (i2s2/csnd)
This feature repurposes the functionality used for the camera shutter sound. As such, it interferes with it:
    • shutter volume is set to the override instead of its default 100% value
    • due to implementation details, having the shutter sound effect play will
make this feature stop working until the volume override is reapplied by
      going back to this menu
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

All right so I haven't touched my 3DS in a long ass time. It keeps telling me to update the 30s so I'm like okay. Let me do luma first. I remember the s*** at all dude. Apparently I'm on 9.1. I just downloaded this that you just mentioned. I thought it was just copy all the current files over to the luma folder.
And I guess I was wrong. Then I watched this video on installing luma for the first time and there was this dude doing all this command prompt stuff.

For a complete dummies can anybody just maybe make a quick YouTube video or something? Please and thank you

I would not watch any 3DS modding tut videos on YouTube. They become extremely outdated, and if it involves tampering with system files, you may or may not brick your system. There's an up-to-date guide created by the community called '3DS Hacks Guide' that has all the information required to mod your 3DS on the latest firmware: https://3ds.guide

If you need any help with this, then either ask me, or refer to the troubleshooting pages found in the glossary.

I just want to update my luma properly from 9.1 to 13.3 And I can't figure out how to do that again cuz before it was just open. Luma and hit update.

At least that's what I remember. I want to be able to update my 3DS so it stops asking me to update it but of course you can't do that until you update luma

You'll first have to update Luma3DS from the Universal Updater: https://universal-team.net/projects/universal-updater

If your console is running A9LH (aka arm9loaderhax), it needs to be upgraded to boot9strap to use the latest Luma3DS.
I guess I'll look at the universal updater, but as far as the arm9 and Boot 9 strap right now it's installing a CIA And I really should work. I'm in my office. I'm pretty sure that I'm updated to where I need to be. I used to be well versed in this stuff. I just haven't picked up my 3DS and a while.

I recently discovered that you can use 128 GB SD card so I just combined my two 64 GB cards and it got me back into wanting to tinker with my 3DS

I've been encountering some issues when compiling luma from source (because i want to change the ntp server from time windows to one widely used in my country for better accuracy) and the boot.firm it produces is kinda bugged because it won't keep the config file while replacing it wit the official stable release makes it save the config normally and the prompt at boot doesn't appear. Is there any way to fix this? Was this because of an error i made unwillingly in the compilation process? Or does compiling from source makes luma behave like this?

So I copied over new luma And according to the directions you just drag and drop it to the root of your card but when I hit select and power it still says 9.1

The boot.firm replacing the one on root? And is it extracted and not in a zip file by chance?

Update on this attempt: NO GO

My 3DS refuses to boot to Luma Config menu. With my new microSD, it boots straight to sysNAND (I know because it shows system version 9.20 when I go to Settings). No menuhax, no Homebrew Launcher.

If I slap the old, corrupted microSD, it boots to menuhax, then Homebrew Launcher

I LITERALLY cannot follow the steps because I cannot access Luma config menu

I am so lost lol

Have you tried with certain homebrew updater app for 3DS?

Alternatively backup and then rehack your 3DS.

Apparently the new microSD I bought was UTTERLY BORKED. h2testw results gave me a 400MB GOOD 30GB-DATALOST summary. Had an angry chuckle at that, so much for buying unbranded Chinese crap online (and it actually shipped from CHINA too).

So I bought a new one, a Sandisk branded Class10 32gb.

AND NOW IT'S WORKING AGAIN!
But I had to say goodbye to my Activity Log, my games and saves, my Mii Plaza -- EVERYTHING, from circa 2011. Now I'm trying to gooooogle if I can just download shit and UNLOCK EVERYTHING for my Mii Plaza. Also trying to read about Pretendo and that other thing about trying to Streetpass online. (GOD I still remember setting up HOMEPASS and getting tags from all over the world, good times)

EDIT: Also I tried Universal Updater - NO GO. Apparently my ISP got it blocked or something, because it refuses to load on my browser, but going to a website checker it registers as up. Same goes for the QR code and file links for 3hs (hshop), so.... I might have to go the circuitous route to go get some of my favorite games back. Things like Culdcept Revolt and Etrian Odyssey IV and Elminage)

Oh and redownloading games from eShop is an absolute bitch, goddamn, I forgot how much I hated downloading games from there

sounds like you had a fake or a cheap knockoff that between then and now Died. for things like like what SEEMS your ISP has blocked (Universal updater.) try something like GoogleDNS or OpenDNS or even cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 though if your using hShop for content you dont own. your going to not really see further support here as gbatemp's stance on even discussing stuff relate dto the yo-hoho- high seas is different since you last originally logged in. at this point if you encounter another 3DS used that far outdated on CFW or on that old a firmware, Just update it to latest and go from the latest instructions on the guide. if you gotta back anything up on an outdated CFW'd 3DS thats onn 9.1/arm9loaderhax, i think the last luma version to support 9.1 & A9H, was 7.1

Hey guys, just want to verify something. 10 years ago I jail broke my n3dsxl and installed cfw. I checked and it's arm9loader and aureinand (which later became luma). It's not Luna though and it's not mentioned in this guide so I want to make sure I don't have to do anything else besides what's listed in this guide: https://3ds.hacks.guide/a9lh-to-b9s.html

Also, back in the day you would grab your cia files off a megaupload link or similar and copy/paste it on your sd card. Is that still the case or is it easier with a cfw eShop app instead

Not really allowed to tell you about where to grab the CIAs from as its against the rules. But if you look around on the guide it tells you that there is indeed a little app/website to get the CIAs from.
