THREAD:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rock Band, Just Dance and Guitar Hero has downloadable songs that you were able to buy and download when the Wii Shop Channel was up. Back in the day, people would install a small WAD, and then they could get whatever song they wanted for free. Since the Wii Shop Channel closed, this is no longer possible. There is a new way to install song DLC, follow this tutorial to do so.

The process to do this is different from installing a WiiWare or Virtual Console WAD. Instead of installing the WAD to your Wii (which will not work), we will use a tool called wad2bin that will convert the WAD to a format you can install directly on your SD Card. Please follow these instructions carefully and then you can use the DLC. It’s a long process, but it’s fun.

Also, if you are wanting to get DLC working with Rock Band 3, you can also install Rock Band 2 DLC for use with that game.

What you need
Instructions

Section 1: Preparing

1. Get the WADs that you want in the folder these instructions are enclosed in.
a. “Big WADs” contain WADs with all the DLC, but they are large. For Rock Band, these come in multiple parts. If you want to use the big WADs, make sure you have enough storage space on your SD Card.
b. “Split WADs” contain WADs with individual songs. This is good because you can pick and choose what WADs you want to install.
2. Copy xyzzy-mod to the apps folder of your SD Card (and Wii Mod Lite if you don’t have it already).
3. Launch xyzzy-mod from the Homebrew Channel, and run it to dump some keys. These are unique keys that are required in order to use wad2bin.
a. This only needs to be done once, if you want to install more WADs later, you don’t need to run the tool again.

Section 2: Patching IOS
  • If you load your game you want to use DLC with using the Disc Channel, follow the steps in Section 2.1.
  • If you load your game you want to use DLC with using a USB Loader, follow https://wii.guide/cios to install the optimal cIOS if you haven’t already.
Section 2.1: Patching IOS for Use with the Disc Channel

You do not need to do this if you’re using a USB Loader. For each IOS listed here (IOS37, IOS56, and IOS57), if you patched them once you don’t need to patch them again.

1. Launch Wii Mod Lite from the Homebrew Channel.
2. Go to the IOSs menu.
3. Select the IOS corresponding to your game.
a. If you want to use DLC with Rock Band 2, select IOS37.
b. If you want to use DLC with Rock Band 3, Just Dance 2-4 or Guitar Hero, select IOS56.
c. If you want to use DLC with Just Dance 2014-2015, select IOS57.
i. Just Dance 2014-2015 is known to have some strange issues where the DLC doesn’t work. We have managed to get it to work on USB Loaders.
4. Press the A Button.
5. Select Install IOS.
6. Select the revision corresponding to your IOS.
a. If you selected IOS37, select 5663.
b. If you selected IOS56, select 5662.
c. If you selected IOS57, select 5919.
7. Press the A Button twice.
8. Press Right on the +Control Pad.
9. Press Down on the +Control Pad.
10. Press Right on the +Control Pad again.
11. Press the A Button.
12. Select Download IOS from NUS.
13. Wait for it to finish. When it’s done, after a few seconds you will be sent to the previous menu.
a. If you get a screen saying “Exception DSI Occurred!”, try this process again.
14. Exit Wii Mod Lite by pressing the HOME Button.

Section 3: Making the WADs

This section needs to be followed for every time you want to install songs.

1. Insert your SD Card to your computer.
2. Open wad2bin.
3. To the right of “Path to SD root”, select the “...” button and set it to the root of your SD Card.
4. To the right of “Path to keys file”, select the “...” button and select the keys.txt file in the root of your SD Card that xyzzy-mod made.
5. To the right of “Path to cert file”, select the “...” button and select the device.cert file in the root of your SD Card that xyzzy-mod made.
6. Fill in the title ID corresponding to your game.
a. Games
i. Just Dance 2 - 00010000534432
ii. Just Dance 3 - 00010000534A44
iii. Just Dance 4 - 00010000534A58
iv. Just Dance 2014 - 00010000534A4F
v. Just Dance 2015 - 00010000534533
vi. Rock Band 2 - 00010000535A41

xi. Guitar Hero 5 - 00010000535845
xii. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock - 00010000535849
b. Important
i. If you’re using the USA version of your game, type 45 at the end of the ID.
1. For example, Rock Band 3 would be 00010000535A4245.
ii. If you’re using the Europe version of your game, type 50 at the end of the ID.
1. For example, Rock Band 3 would be 00010000535A4250.
7. Only if using Rock Band 2, select the “Use nullkey” box.
8. Select “add wad” to install one WAD file.
a. Or, select “add folder” to install a folder of WADs.
9. Select “run”.
10. Make sure that it created a folder with .bin files in a subfolder of /private/wii/data/ on your SD Card. The private folder needs to be at the root of your SD Card.
11. Move the WAD file starting with “00010000” and ending with “bogus.wad” to a folder called “wad” in your SD Card.

Section 4 - Finalizing

This section needs to be followed for every time you want to install songs.

1. Launch Wii Mod Lite from the Homebrew Channel.
2. Go to the WAD Manager menu.
3. Select the folder on your SD Card called “wad”.
4. Highlight the WAD file starting with “00010000” and ending with “bogus.wad”.
5. Press the - Button.
6. Press the A Button, and then press it again when it prompts you to.
a. Ignore any errors.
7. Now in the menu where you were before to select WAD files, highlight the same WAD file again.
8. Press the A Button, and then press it again when it prompts you to.
a. Ignore any errors.
9. Load the game you made the DLC for and test it out. (If using Just Dance 2014 or Just Dance 2015 with a USB Loader, make sure you're using cIOS 249 installed with https://wii.guide/cios )

I'm sorry, am I late?
Anyway, I have Just Dance 2014 PAL version, but when I installed the DLCs, they suddenly install quickly because they only have 1 Wii Block, somehow. Was this an error in Step 4?
Use the wad2bin tooling correctly and it should be fine

make sure to have correct keys from your wii

Anyone figure out how to use this with emunand/neek?
Never used it that way, you can buy a physical wii for 10-20 euros these days + 32gb sd card will bring it to maybe 25 euros

So does it show the -1022 error for you when you load the bogus DLC's in the console with YAMMM as I also have a PAL system and it just worked out of the box, SD card should be FAT32 32k cluster size
I'll try that out.

I'll try that out.
That's weird, Just Dance 2015 says that the DLC was installed, but it didn't show up.

One reminder as you need to run the Wii shop channel at least once so it connects to the internet , somehow this fixed it for RB3 in the past , i deployed JD around the same time

Hello, I've recently downloaded Just Dance 4 DLCs (using the physical copy of the game) and am currently interested into downloading Just Dance 2014 DLCs (also as physical copy).
I've noticed that when I was patching the IOS to access the JD4 DLCs I've installed you have to set the IOS to IOS56, but for JD2014 it's different, you have to set it to IOS57.
Is it ok if I just download the DLCs and put it into my SD card (of course, after doing the wad2bin step) or am I supposed to go though the process of Patching IOS for Use with the Disc Channel again, but on this time, setting the IOS to 57?
I hope to hear answers soon!
Thank you for reading.

If you are having an unknown error with your SD card.

Rock band 3 and other games cannot be on the same SD card as your DLC is stored. RB3 must be on disc or USB storage.

I think.
I deleted some of my DLC on JD3 and can't get it back even if I download the bogus.wad file 😭 can someone help me

Hey, first time posting for help here.

ive followed the instructions to the letter, except for the wad manager, I used yawm. Return error code 0 when trying to install single rb3 song. I’ve no luck at all. I’m also using usbloader gx on sd card with games on sata ssd through usb. I’d appreciate any help.

That’s got to be the problem. I thought the eshop had closed? I have opened the Wii shop channel, did the Eula, now it just sits at the loading screen then times out. when I went to test the network connection it was good but said an update was available despite being on the latest 4.3u.

ok,so I got the Zelda channel. Priloader was blocking the update.

next question is should I install the bogus wad via the emunand manager in usbloader gx, or via YAWM

About installing wad files: in theory there should be no difference between the programs. But I would advise you to do everything as described in the instructions in the first post. With additions from my post

Have you tried downloading something from eShop? Zelda, for example. You have to do that first, then install the dlc. I haven't tried jast dens, but it should be the same as guitar hero/rock band.
See what region your console and game is from. If the region is different, you might be installing the DLC for the wrong region.
And for gods sake, don't update your wii via default settings if it asks you to. Otherwise you'll break the console.

Success!!!! After doing the update just to get into what’s left of the Wii shop and download that Zelda channel, and uninstall/reinstall the bogus wad with YAWM, everything is great!

Thank y’all so much. This guide and any other should probably start with that. Or any soft modding guide for that matter. Before anything, update console and download something From the shop.
My only concern is if Nintendo removes even this basic functionality from the shop. What would need to be done then?

By region and rock band. I myself tried to install dlc for more than two months and endlessly changed firmware on wii, changed versions of the game, ways to install wad files, versions of the game, etc.
And to summarize, guitar hero dlc depends on the region of the GAME. rock band dlc depends on the region of the CONSOLE
JD I have not tested. But it would be much easier for you to install dlc for one region(like ntsc) and then download both games(pal and ntsc) and test.

Been slowly installing various mods and etc on my Wii-U so I'll have to look into this soon since I still have guitar controllers, a mic and the RB3 keyboard.

Hello, my name is anT and I.... have a problem.

Jokes aside, I am very new to the Wii modding scene (like, days new).

I used Funkyscotts tutorial () to mod my Wii which all went fine. Then followed the guide here for rock band 3 and guitar hero warriors of rock for the songs. I got the big wads, wadtobin went fine.

Over on the Wii, using yawmm instead of Wii mod lite, installed the wads.

Open RB3 (I do have the disk but I installed it to my Wii, same with GHWOR), no new songs, tried enabling sd card but it says no card found.

I tried GH, same thing no new songs and no SD card found.

I then tried the CD versions.

RB3 found and started loading 9xx songs, great! Many minutes later it finished, went to quick play to find only 3xx songs. And when hovering over some, I got the message about song not being able to be saved to Wii memory. And it seems to want to load all 9xx everytime I load the game.

Over to GH cd. This actually loaded most of the songs, few were missing but it was the packs that were missing so I guess they might have been added after the wads were made.

I went to the rock archive (downloaded song section and SD card menu). SD was there with all the songs, also the option to move songs to Wii storage. I had an idea! Moved a song to the Wii storage, closed the game and went into the GH that was on the Wii, checked the rock archive and low and behold, there was the song.

So I guess the issue might have something to do with not seeing the SD cards, at least for the games that have been saved to the Wii.

Dunno if that can help people figure this out but I wanted to add my experience while also asking why not all songs are added in rock band? I don't mind having to use the disc version but not sure if I want to have to load them all everytime I start the game, why won't they save to the Wii?

I am currently using a 128gig Sandisc Ultra micro SD.
I am going to get a 38gig Sandisc so I can stick Rock Band 3 deluxe on and give that a try with the songs.

When you're not running games from a CD, you have to run them from an external usb device. You can't run a game from a SD card and try to run a DLC from the same card.

Also I wrote above that for RB the region of the console is important. And DLC should be made for the region of the console. And for GH the region of the game is important.

About the deluxe version... IMHO there are a lot of glitches and crashes. So I just took the regular RB3 and added a cheat to fit 3000 songs.
