Yeah, fuck experts and people with experience. Only my ignorant ass knows what's right.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to see the edge of the world, because nobody can tell me it's not flat. Oh and I'll stop taking medicine, since I'm not going to let doctors tell me what I should be doing with my health. And I won't listen to anyone telling me to seek therapy, because I think I'd know better than anyone if I was crazy or not.

You may have no experience and require assistance with reaching an opinion, but some of us have more experience than we wish we had.

That makes a lot more sense. Nobody who ever wants to be taken seriously again is gonna say there's an 85% chance of either candidate winning.

He did not "build" either company, he bought them only after both already had an established track record of success. Both would arguably be better off without him now, too, since he wastes almost the entirety of every day shitposting on X.

Usually treats his workers like shit too: Canvassers for Elon Musk’s America PAC Were Fired and Stranded in Michigan After Speaking Out
When he bought Tesla they were not doing well yet by any means

And the business model back then was literally taking pre built chassis and putting batteries on them

They didn't have anything and were basically making bespoke cars

I don't know enough about spacex to comment there

But your understanding of Tesla couldn't be more wrong

Not really, from your description there, all they needed was a big cash injection to get off the ground with something more substantial. Could've come from anybody and they still would've ended up where they are now, if not better off.

i actually liked when they used the lotus type s frame for the teslas. i got to ride in one with a programming developer who had hacked voltage response so it could go extremely fast but couldnt drive it for more than 20min without it overheating and major drain on battery. it was cool but not practical for most people. business model wise it didnt work but still was cool. probably the best car i got to drive in besides a mclarin f1.

They are not the only ones who have tried electric, they are the only ones who did it right (eventually)

And if you think a recipe for success is converting pre-existing ICE cars to electric I have a bridge to sell you

Any investor would've wanted to expand out to manufacturing and selling their own proprietary vehicles, rather than sticking to little pet projects. You said it yourself, Musk isn't an engineer, he didn't provide Tesla with anything other than cash and the expectation of RoI.

If you look at how many companies have been started in this world and how many end up profitable vs fail - you will see it's not exactly easy to make a company that is profitable - let alone a player on the world stage

Warren Buffet has stupid tons of money - can he just invest in some car company and see it become (at one point) the most highly valued car company in the world?

Of course not

And to make two companies that are household names, internationally important, and worth billions

Those aren't easy tasks - simply having money is not enough

If you are too blinded by your Musk hate boner to see he created some great companies and that that's not an easy task - there is really no point to even keep talking

You have to have an eye for talent, sure, but the more money you have, the less it matters how many bad investments you make before you stumble upon a good one. Hell, Trump has made nothing but bad investments in his life, and still ended up in a position with Musk, who is far more wealthy, licking his boots. Where you start is probably the biggest indicator of where you'll finish, especially in a capitalist nation.

Musk's family was by no means poor

But they weren't ultra rich like Trump

He was estranged from his father and worked odd jobs at times including on a farm and at a lumber mill

Sure he is no rags to riches, but largely a self made man who got in at the right time during the dot com boom

He used that money to build other companies that led to him being the richest man in the history of mankind

Millions have been better off in childhood than him and came nowhere near where he did

Was it all fair? Nothing is far - but was it all a good youth? Absolutely not

Say what you will - he did some extraordinary things

All that to say, it doesn't make him a good or smart person in general

Although he is clearly good at making money and building companies in a way no one else ever has been

That's the thing. When you have so much money, you can just throw it into whatever you want, whether that be in an existing company, or one you dream of. This is not to say that Elon is an idiot with a Scrooge McDuck money bin. Regardless of his contributions to Twitter/X, he is very smart, but his entire career and schooling was funded by his father's emerald mine. He was born into a wealthy family to have that opportunity.

His dad didn't actually own the mine but got proceeds from it

In any case he was estranged from his dad before he was too old and worked odd jobs at a farm/lumber mill as posted above

It was not all golden toilets and velvet carpets like Trump

It's talent mixed with luck with a vision for things that other people weren't putting money into at the time

His interest in electric cars and civilian rocketry were really before their time

Kinda splitting hairs when we're talking about a family that owned one or multiple apartheid emerald mines.

Regardless of his contributions to Twitter/X, he is very smart
Less so by the time he bought Twitter, the ketamine addiction has clearly had an adverse effect on his intelligence and demeanor.

They didn't own any of them, it's public knowledge you can look it up

His dad also ran in an anti-apartheid political party

But keep saying fake things if you want

Well, money and power can corrupt.

Sorry, the mine he owned a STAKE in. Again feels like splitting hairs though, and Elon's own dad has had to correct him about this in the past precisely because he tried to deny the mine ever existed.

Notch was a cool guy before he got money and went off the deep end

White dudes with money and too much time online soon go crazy
I see Musk as (partially) wasted potential. He was insanely lucky in life, and that carried him through a lot, especially for someone with Asperger's syndrome. He had/has great ideas which are for the benefit of humanity (Safe payments/Electric cars/space travel/better infrastructure). If he left it to that, then I don't think anyone would be having any issues with him.

Then he got the taste of attention from millions of people, and that has ruined him quite a bit. His trans kid also helped push him over the edge towards a more than eager far right who told him it wasn't his fault, but society which pushed his kid towards that life. There are other parts of his life which made him develop into a weirdo, like his father teaching him that his goal is to procreate as much as possible, and now he's offering his semen to any woman that will take it. It's all unfortunate, and could have been much better.
