In the short term, the Republican strategy is more about forcing Americans to have more children, thus the abortion bans and proposed contraceptive bans. Trump would of course go back to putting kids in cages on the border and the racist Muslim travel bans, etc, but concentration camps for dissenters don't come until fascism has infected society as a whole.

Unfortunately you might be right about that. Republicans have a long history of running brain-damaged candidates like George W Bush, Sarah Palin, and now Donald Trump, so it's very beneficial for them to move the conversation away from intelligence and competence.
