Game Freak has been allegedly hacked, with source codes for Pokemon games reportedly leaked

It appears another "gigaleak" has gone down, involving Nintendo. According to sources online, it appears that Game Freak has been hacked, resulting in internal data from the company being leaked to the public. Those involved in the hacking community or those within general Pokemon related groups are claiming that while they will not be discussing or dissecting the specifics within the leak, it initially is being claimed that there is a total of 1TB of data.

This allegedly includes the source code for Pokemon Platinum, source codes for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, beta builds of Pokemon Black and White 2, beta builds of Pokemon X and Y, and potential internal codenames for upcoming Pokemon projects. Within it are mentions of an online Pokemon game, a collaborative project between Game Freak and Studio ILCA, the potential code name of the Nintendo Switch 2 being "Ounce", and a project named Gaia, which may be the next generation of Pokemon titles.

Further details are slowly being posted on X, and as more becomes clear, we'll be sure to update this post with new information.

[UPDATE]

  • As some of the data from the gigaleak hints towards a "Gen 10" Pokemon game, industry insider NecroLipe claims that Pokemon Gaia will launch for both the Switch and its successor system.
  • Users on ResetEra claim that a playable build of Legends Z-A is included in the leak.
  • Ikkaku, Gaia-K, and Gaia-N are all codenames with Nintendo Switch product codes.
  • Synapse appears to be an "online multiplayer" game. This is the collab project with ILCA, who worked on BD/SP. One claim states that it's similar to an MMO, while another says it's closer to Splatoon.
  • Contrary to the claims of there being a version of Legends Z-A that is close to complete, the leaker has apparently said they don't wish to spoil the surprises of future unreleased games, so those will not be included in the leak.
  • The hack is the result of a phishing attempt on a Nintendo Dev Portal user.
  • Beta Gen 3 Pokemon sprites were leaked
  • Internal design documents for Gen 4 and Gen 5 were leaked.
  • An official map editor for Gen 4 is in the files.
  • Logo and boxart design from Game Freak were included.

I could only assume this could be "revenge" someone has taken against them for suing Palworld...

Very unlikely to be Palworld related, but the lack of ethics on their part, which resulted in them attacking those Devs is certainly the reason.

They have targeted good, talented people many times, whilst at the same time churning out low quality, buggy games, which are aimed mostly at kids (no offence intended toward any older gamers)

Sony abused the law many times years back and had good talented people imprisoned and or/work shut down, they suffered for it (but still ultimately got away with everything they did)

Yeah sure why not.

Reminder that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of gaming companies that are infinitely worse than them, but no one ever touches them. This was simply a hacking target with a vulnerability they could exploit. Any reasoning behind it other than “because we can” is simply useless and insulting. It’s why it’s not uncommon at all for hackers to target hospitals.

Calling BS on the next Pokemon game being a dual release. Game Freak could barely get Scarlet and Violet to run on the Switch, and unless they've genuinely rethought their approach, the next gen is also going to be Bigger and Better (with the same amount of dev time). Why would they split their limited time to compete with themselves on a system that will have more of a requirement for them to actually optimise the game?

This leaker probably just saw what happened with BOTW and figured this was also a safe bet. But BOTW had already been announced as coming to Wii U, and had the resources to keep that promise. GameFreak has no such obligation or reason to do that.

Wonder how Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori will react to this?

Jokes aside, I'm sure we can also get source codes for their non-Pokémon games from this leak, like the one on my profile pic.

That's not fair, i like gf and their hard work they put in their aaa quality games should be respected, not like this
You call Scarlet and Violet an AAA quality game? It was filled with bugs at launch and you call that an AAA game? Come on...

You can tell he was just being sarcastic. Scarlet and Violet has actually been improved after listening to the community's feedback, although a few bugs exist, it's relatively stable.

I love that it was a phishing scam. Of all the people that should know better than to fill out a form full of personal details in the hope of securing a sexy Russian bride, you’d think someone working in the industry would be wiser. Great of Gamefreak to support the community though, given their recent behaviour.

Had it coming. This is what happens if you piss of your customers, Shitendo. You've been on nothing but an anti-consumer tirade, dealing out lawsuits left and right, pulling shady shit with people who legitimately did nothing wrong, and so on and so forth. Nobody on this planet deserves this more than you do, and I know that your peanut brains that are only occupied with suing everyone won't comprehend this anyways, but as the saying goes: you reap what you sow, and you've sown nothing but animosity, so you reap nothing but hatred and indifference towards you.

Can anyone ping me when the entire leak has released on Archive.org or LeakForums, HackForums or whatever have you? I'd appreciate that ✌️

Supposedly yes, but the leaker has gone on record saying that he wasn't going to upload anything that wasn't already officially out (referring to Gen 10 and Z-A). Although that's just their word, he could be saying anything

Reminder that this, despite looking like a bad joke, is actually part of an official Nintendo website:
