Question: Why is protonmail emails blocked by signup?

Just curious why protonmail emails seem to be blocked by the signup process. I even made a second proton email to see if it was some sort of bug with my first.

On a site where you may be discussing something grey area related to ROMs or emulators why wouldn't an anonymous email provider be preferred, instead of the authenticator options that allow you to be easily identified IRL? It seems a bit creepy at first glance.

Not being combative. Just curious. There could be a completely understandable reason for it and I'm just ignorant of it.

The reason is simple. This is to prevent spam/bot accounts from promoting crypto doubling, black magic spell, hacking services, or other forms of self-promotion type scams.

they don't block throwaway mail providers, so just make your account using one of those throwaway mails, and then change the email on your profile to your protonmail one

Happens just about everywhere with every corporation you sign up to. GitHub, Reddit, Google, etc., they do not allow disposable e-mails because they want your data.

Proton mail isn’t a disposable email

You get it by subscribing to proton VPN. It’s an @proton.me address usually

Belated, but this is bad advice. GBATemp will deactivate your account if it can't reliably send mail to you. I had this happen when my SMTP server went down for a couple of months.

That's weird happen about proton mail email.

I just want let everyone know. When I try to set up new Facebook account with proton mail email for test only and look like not going through then not working. I think Meta (Facebook) did block proton mail email.

About Instagram was successful make new account for my test only.

I think some companies don't like proton mail email when make sign up for new accounts. So weird.

I don't mean to sound like the "leave the multimillion dollar company alone" guy, but no.
They are actually one of the very, very few "privacy-focused" tech companies out there that isn't an outright scam controlled by major media companies.

spam is a huge problem for webforums like us and up until several months ago we still had massive influx of bots coming in daily.
we have reinforced our antispam protections and these work in kinda mysterious ways, but they are effective and we have pretty much solved the problem, hopefully for good.
of course there's still the occasional bot but it's not like dozens per day like it used to.

Don't worry, I'm not perceiving you as such guy and I'm open to discuss this.

Admittedly, I made such statement by simply trusting what a friend said to me without doing my own research. So I'm doing one now.

Maybe they are somewhat more private than something like google is, and going by a more strict definition of "honey pot" would suggest that the service is explicitly run by feds trying to catch criminals, which may be an exaggeration.

But the problem I have with it right now is having a site that looks all nice and clean, making bold statements that they're the "privacy guys", while at the end of the day you can't 100% trust someone for hosting such service, let alone a company, for not logging your data which can be subject to be seen by authorities and court orders.

This is why I use Mullvad for my VPN. When they were recently raided, and ordered to turn everything over, they just shrugged and said "we don't have anything". As far as I'm aware, they're one of the few actually recommended by privacy advocates.
