Well the average Joe little Timmy isn't going to report his random ban to gbatemp from using a used MK8 to play online. So are we ever going to know that actually happens? no but that possibility of a ban will exist. A used console doesn't matter its the used game that was dumped with a mig switch- but if the dumper always play offline then sure its not going to be a problem for the other person owning that same game.

@thestonemodder
I'm just making an example- you can ignore it if it bothers ya. Feel free to ignore all the risks I'm not a white knight by any stretch.
The two parts of my post were separate things. It was just merged by the forum. Id mentioned earlier I’m testing to see if updating games causes an immediate ban like the reddit post implied. I did this on a used switch to test it. Not related to rental games at all.

You never know when the bans will occur, based on the info I've seen in the banning thread here on GBATemp. But good luck, nevertheless.
I personally appreciate what you guys are doing in order to share the info with us. A few would be willing to get their Switches banned for these kind of tests.

just an update my second switch on stock fw is not banned yet, i have been opening mariokart every day and joining and online games thats with a labo cert also different one to what i used on bdsp should be banned by the end of the week if its getting banned idk
Do you have card UID and header files or do you just have xci, initial data, and cert?
Also, can you download BCAT data for the games?

The dude made the subreddit private lmao

He’s probably afraid he’s going to be sued too. Dude told me day 1 he just made the subreddit Reddit to say he made it and clearly didn’t understand how to use it. So I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner tbh

Oh well maybe this will finally mean less bad information will be spread around since the echo chamber is gone

Edit: he deleted his whole reddit account lolol

The new domain works for me still. Only a matter of time though if it’s still US based.
Some replied to me on Twitter saying the same and suggested DNS

But what’s weird is I changed my VPN to like 6 other countries with the same issue. So something odd is definitely going on

Do those little switches work, i mean are they small enough to fit in a cart design?

I havnt had time to try them yet. But they should be small enough

My printer is busy finishing up parts to build an enclosure for my ender 3. I wasted all last week printing out the wrong parts and have to redo it all 🙃

Maybe try a different device or disabling ad blockers?
Eh it’s not that important thank you tho.

Hello,

I just recieved a mig switch and dumper bought from Aliexpress. I have tried to update the firmware of the mig switch and used two different microsd cards (one from SanDisk and another one from Amazon Basics) but the LED on the mig switch stays solid red while trying to update. It seems weird to me that two seperate sd cards would result in the same issue.

Should I continue and try with another sd card or is there a workaround to get the mig switch to update and run the games?

Again it seems weird that 2 microsd cards would have the same issue, could the issue be the mig switch itself?

It doesn’t have the best SD card compatibility. Try a normal SD card brand

Did you get it

working?
I tried 4 other new cards:

1 SanDisk Extreme Pro
1 Lexar (E-Series)
1 Lexar (high performance)
1 Kingston (select plus)

Considering the other 2 I have tried which were Amazon Basics and a standard SanDisk.

With a total of 6 cards I haven't managed to make the Mig Switch work - at this point I am assuming that the unit is defective.

I will try by updating the dumper and switch to an older version but not expecting much.

Have you tried to actually put a game on it yet?

If so share a screenshot of the files on your sd card

Is there a chance the firmware is already on it? Try loading a game.
Tried loading a game on it - I tried two folder structure - one with the long code for the folder name and with files name "ROM" and another as per example in the pic.

If you don't mind me asking did you get they one with the stick or with out the sticker. When I search Ali I only see those 2 types

Recently, I made a compulsive purchase of a Mig Switch from AliExpress. Just like a lot of people, I just can't get it to work. After struggling for hours it seems like TheStonedModder is the only one on the internet with some actual knowledge of this thing.

The main issue is that the switch will give the 'Game card could not be read' notification. I'm trying to get dumped ROMs from "n**2u" on it.

  • I'm using a MigSwitch 2 from AliExpress with a Philips 64GB microSD card formatted to exFAT.
  • I've used the updater, and that seems to be working fine.
  • I've tried the most recent updater 1.1.4 and 1.1.1
  • I've added the files, including all the .bin files with the exact same file name like you suggested
  • When entering the card, it briefly shows a green light, indicating a rom is found.
  • My Switch running 17.0.1
  • My Switch has been offline for 6 months
  • I've tried multiple different games

Here are some pictures of a game I've tested. Don't judge me for the type of game, it had a small file size haha.

Maybe I'm trying something that's not working, maybe I've made a dumb purchase. I don't know at this point, haha. If I'm missing something, let me know! Thanks so much in advance ✨

Wishing you all the best from The Netherlands!
