Xbox Cloud Gaming comes to Fire TV devices

Yay, latency!

Microsoft and Amazon have partnered to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to Amazon Fire TV devices in July of this year.

Included as part of the $15 per month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate sub. The new service allows users to stream hundreds of games without an Xbox console.

The service will initially be available in regions where the Cloud Gaming service currently operates on both the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max models, with possible future support for the Fire Stick Lite. Users will also need a Bluetooth Xbox Series X/S controller.

This news comes shortly after it was disclosed that Microsoft halted development on a standalone dedicated cloud streaming console named Project Keystone.

This is not a bad idea at all, I've been thinking about getting into the Xbox ecosystem, I have a spare Xbox controller lying around from when I had a gaming PC so this makes perfect sense to me as long as it works correctly

microsoft might as well pack it in with the xbox you don't even need one anymore. xbox is failing, sony is bringing all their games to pc soon it will only be nintendo remaking the same shit games over and over on dated hardware. console gaming is definitely dying.

better build/get yourself a good gaming pc if you haven't already

So what you're saying is that you're quite unfamiliar with the Sony and Nintendo game libraries & the differences between cloud/streaming gaming vs a downloaded copy or disc. "Don't even need one anymore"?

Eh Cloud gaming sucks, videogame digital rental as in you actually can download the game to play, is way better.

Yea its quite obvious you don't have a Xbox console, nor have seen the differences from cloud gaming to console gaming. And to think MS is going down, or is shit, because you only own a gaming pc, is ignorant. (Current Xbox users- 120+ million)

There were news Amazon's getting rid of their Fire OS powered by Android, so what's the replacement? Something by M$?
They announced that they will be moving away from utilizing Android for FireOS and use something Linux based. So expect a native Game Pass support on Linux soon.

Hope Geforce now is to follow soon.

Why are they ditching Android, though? More control of it?

The current Fire OS uses Android so users can freely install the apps they want and debloat the device from Amazon apps if they want. That's pretty neat.

Probably so it runs better on lower end hardware and restricts what users can do I.e. dodgy pirate streaming, Kodi, etc. Basically turning it into Roku.

Currently the Echo Show also uses Fire OS, so I'd expect them to switch as well.

I wont be surprised if we get a bunch of returns at my retail job when they do switch Fire Stick/TV over.

This development is somewhat of a no-brainer. After rumors that Project Keystone was put to pasture over R&D costs, it makes so much sense for XBox to tap into Amazon's ecosystem w/ a market that's already established and it could potentially be a popup success.

All 5 people using this service are going to be chuffed! Until it lags because the hardware is complete trash
It's not that bad. I have the Fire TV 4K Max and sideloaded Geforce Now was running quite well. I expect Game Pass streamed games to run in a similar manner.

As much of a PC Master Race Elitist that I am, even I know better than to spew such blasphemy towards plebeian console peasants players 🤣🤣🤣

My comment isn't meant to be taken seriously, I just hate Amazon products

Amazon's tablets are great budget Android tablets, but once they switch, I don't see myself buying another one running their new OS.

People will really have to be into Amazon's ecosystem to make use of it. I can't stand the Amazon apps or their shitty app store.
