When I try to download Super Smash Bros for Wii U the "permission error (read only filesystem)" error shows up at 8% of the download. What is the cause?

Are you downloading to USB and is it a USB HDD ? If so it might be underpowered (are you using a Y cable?). If not give more details, please. Even a picture of the error screen might help.
Yes, sorry, I am using a 200gb USB HDD with a Y cable. This is the photo:

@Devvooooo You could try completely removing the install folder on the root of the USB drive with the help of FTPiiU. In case that doesn't fix this it's still a power issue I guess, so you could try to plug the power only end of the Y cable into a powerful wall charger.

Does any of this help?

I even tried to get another game but the error still shows up

Sorry, I just get NUSspli, didn't install anything yet. I was just wondering what the 1st file is ? It looks like a game title.

@Devvooooo Do you have another HDD and/or another Y cable to test?

@creedof69 Unknown title IDs are most of the times VC injects or homebrew channels. Just weird that it doesn't get any title name from CafeOS (NUSsplis checks the title ID against its internal database first and if that doesn't give the name it asks CafeOS. Showing the title ID is really just a fallback in case all else fails). Are you using latest NUSspli version?

Q: Is there anything I can do to get better download speeds?
A: In case you haven't already: Get a LAN adapter. With this you get around 27 Mbit/s and way less network errors. More isn't possible with the Wii Us weak hardware.
This is the only big downside of NUSspli and it's not even something you can fix since the Wii U itself is the bottleneck here.
I used NUSspli for the first time to install the base game of MK8 yesterday and was bummed that it took almost an hour to install 4 - 5 gb so I went and grabbed update and DLC via Wii U USB Helper and installed them with WUP Installer GX2 (around 1.4 gb) which only took a few seconds.
I wish there was a way around this since that puts NUSspli in a "nice to have" spot rather than the "this is it! this is all we ever need" spot that it could have had otherwise.

It's still a beautiful tool, it's still convenient for smaller games and it's definitely nice to figure out which games/updates/dlcs are missing currently.

I'm using NUSspli v1.151 for aroma (.wuhb) from ghithub (didn't want the lite version on HB appstore)

I have a 20gb HDD; I once tried to install on NAND and it gave me the error...

Hi! Has anyone had problems with queue installation when using NUSspli lite v1.151?
It worked fine with v1.150, but with v1.151 I always end up with a console softlock. Two cases:
- (few) console softlock when adding or removing titles to queue
- (always) false "not enough free space on USB" error message when trying to start the queue installation. Then softlock when exiting the app.
The goal was to install a title, its update, and its DLC at the same time using queued installation. I also noticed that the prefixes "[UPD]" and "[DLC]" no longer appear in the title names when you open the queue.

@Devvooooo I have no idea what the issue is when it's happening while downloading to NAND, too. If you want to you could download your whole storage_slc/sys/logs folder with FTPiiU, zip it and DM it to me for a deeper inspection.

@qWii Thanks for this. Turned out there was a code change between 1.150 and 1.151 which introduced a bug into the queue system. Will be fixed with the next update. :)

WUP Installer GX2
that puts NUSspli in a "nice to have" spot rather than the "this is it! this is all we ever need" spot
Even when you download with 3rd party tools the question is why do you need more than NUSspli? In other words why did you use WUP Installer for this? What can WUP Installer do that NUSspli can't? ;)
Also have a look at Wii U Downloader: It might not look as fancy as WUSB Helper but it's the better tool.

//EDIT: A bit more technical bla @qWii
1.151 rewore some logic but accidentally freed the memory area holding the .tmd file while it's still needed by the queue. This introduced undefined behavior here:
(few) console softlock when adding
as well as a double-free here:
or removing titles to queue
And it made this totally undefined behavior:
(always) false "not enough free space on USB" error message when trying to start the queue installation. Then softlock when exiting the app.
I also noticed that the prefixes "[UPD]" and "[DLC]" no longer appear in the title names when you open the queue.

Again many thanks for your report. Your detailed description and all the small observations you stated made it possible to find the root of it this fast. :)

Force of habit I guess. But fair enough. :D
I was surprised how much faster WUP Installer was compared to the version I used a few years ago though so I'm curious how fast NUSspli is compared to that when installing stuff from the SD card. I'll give it a shot for whatever I'm going to install next. :)

Same applies here: Force of habit. I did use Wii U Downloader once though and it was alright. At least it's more simplistic and minimal (two words which definitely won't apply to HSB Helper lol).
So thanks for the wake-up call. :)
