I have latest Luma installed. So I can boot ditect to TWMenu?
You cant autoboot on 3ds
You can autoboot to TWLMenu++ on 3DS, actually. There is just no user-friendly way to do so yet.
I tried implementing the feature into TWLMenu++ Settings, but would just cause Luma settings to be reset, as the .ini implementation of TWLMenu++ causes the comments to be erased.

How would you set it up manually? So that those who want it could at least have it

v27.5.0
v27.5.0

What's new?

  • You can now have TWLMenu++ autoboot on your 3DS or 2DS console, with a setting called `Set Luma Autoboot` (in the Misc settings page)!
  • Adding GBARunner3 just got easier! You no longer need to add a specific setting to `settings.ini` (which was `GBARUNNER3_TEST = 1`), and now only `GBARunner3.nds` needs to be placed in `sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/emulators/`!
  • Genesis and SNES ROMs are now visible on flashcards again!
    • If the filetype for the ROM(s) is `.md`, it'll not be visible until you set the Gen/MD emulator to PicoDriveTWL in TWLMenu++ Settings.
  • Various: Updated translations.

Bug fixes

  • @mentusfentus: Fixed cursor behavior when sorting by recently played (#2430)
  • Wood theme: Icon zoom animation has been slowed down by a frame to closely replicate the animation from the original Wood UI menu.

By the way, I dont know if this a known issue or what, but on ds classic theme, when you tap slot-1 launch or last played game at the bottom

Like on an original ds/lite, the tile flies up, but the text from the game's banner title stays in place instead of following. The icon follows the tile correctly, it's just the text that stays behind

Is that fixable? Cosmetic issue, but still

The text is software-rendered, so there's a possibility of the text not being updated each frame.

Also, I have a problem where download play crashes on a data abort red screen (pictochat works fine)

I will replace my files with 27.5.0, maybe my dlplay file was corrupted somehow. But is there some config somewhere that could cause that kind of problem? (Dsi by the way)

Just curious, since the GBARUNNER3_TEST = 1 is not needed anymore, do you think it would be possible to either add a menu setting to reenable GBARUNNER2 even if gbarunner3.nds is on the SD card or alternatively maybe add a per game setting to start a rom in GBARUNNER2 instead of 3 (nearly all GBA games run better in 3 these days but just for the very few where 2 runs them better this would be a very nice feature). This would make SD-card shuffling much less annyoing IMHO :)

btw I just set up slot-1 autoboot with scfg and sd access, and I don't know how you did it but you're a fucking genius. It works and does exactly what I would have wanted it to do, except so much better than I would have expected it to do

Edit: I have a problem actually... my use case is that I want to run ds stuff off flashcart kernel for perfect compatibility, and in dsi sd card I have gbarunner3, nds bootstrap for pokemon white 2 because of dsi enhanced that I cant do on flashcart, and gameyob dsi since it's better than gameyob ds

The problem: pokemon pearl does not work with this setup. If I boot my flashcart directly, no problem. If I run the game through flashcart with the scfg + autoboot setup, even running with flashcart kernel and not nds bootstrap, the game doesnt work. Half the time it loads into a white screen, other half of the time it loads the intro but whitescreen when you try to get to the title screen

Pokemon soulsilver works perfectly in the same setup. Hotel dusk also doesnt work, but last window is fine. Both pearl and hotel dusk are sdk3, soulsilver and last window are sdk4. Are sdk3 games just broken with this setup?

I have r4i gold 3ds plus, is there an incompatibility with this card? Should I find an r4(i) ultra? What makes it different, is it better/more stable than other flashcards for this?

I tried forcing ntr cpu speed and vram mode in case they were being run with twl by default, but that doesnt help

I don't think so.

If the issue is happening with nds-bootstrap, then considering SDK3 games work fine on DSi/3DS SD card, I have no idea what is causing SDK3 games to not work with your setup. Also, have you tried Pokemon Platinum (which uses SDK4)?

R4(i) Ultra is known to be more stable than the other flashcards. It is unknown why that is, exactly.

No, it's using flashcart kernel to boot, so I could get the flawless compatibility of wood kernel for ds games

As a sdk4 game, platinum works, yes

Boot with flashcart kernel with twilight menu with just flashcart itself, all games work. but slot-1 scfg access seems to break them

My touchscreen won't work. It works but when i load a game via Twilight, the touchscreen doesnt work but the menu is fine.

If you're using a DSi, then start "Launcher" from the Unlaunch menu.
If you're using a 3DS, then try recalibrating touch. Otherwise, idk.

i'm using an o3ds and have recalibrated multiple times, the games im trying to play are portal ds and dscraft
If those are the only games with touch input not working, then you're out of luck, as those homebrew we're made with an outdated library which didn't contain a fix for 3DS touch input.

Yeah, some DS homebrew only works or works right in a DS, that and making GBA backups is why I keep my fat DS around.

If you wanna risk it certain Chinese app sells refurbished DS on the cheap.

Compatibility is always gonna be a problem, for example the Nintendo Wii won't read slightly damaged Gamecube game discs the Gamecube reads with no problems and the sound in some games will be different and that's with Nintendo doing the best they could to offer close to 100% compatibility with the Gamecube on the Wii.

The PS2 can read PS1 game CDs no problem but also tends to damage them way faster that the PS1 does.

And these two are the actual companies doing hardware compatibility so it can be as compatible as possible.

So yeah, 100% perfect compatibility is freaking hard.

I cant find r4 ultra, I guess that clone is too old it's not really in production anymore since years, and not enough people got those compared to acekard so there arent as many on the secondhand market, but I found an incredible deal for an ak2i just the next city over, hopefully this works better and solves my problems I was having

I do have some questions about nds boostrap from slot 1 though

the only reason I want to run games from the flashcart in the first place, again it's because nds bootstrap is not completely perfect yet, so there are some compatibility problems with some games. so I want to run ds games from the flashcart using the flashcart's original kernel as the loader, as much as possible, because flashcart kernel has perfect compatibility with ds games

I could just keep dsi sd and slot 1 separate, and boot into the flashcart directly when I want to play those games, to keep the perfect compatibility, because games work if I do that and I have no issues. but I like the seamless integration of slot 1 with dsi sd card that allows you to just boot into one "system" and access both in one menu, and run both from the same menu. it's really cool tech and really unlocks the full potential of the console

so anyway

if I select nds bootstrap for the slot 1 game loader instead of kernel, is the compatibility still just as good as flashcart kernel, because the games are being run from slot-1? do I lose compatibility by doing this? and what is b4ds mode on/off? I was under the impression that b4ds = running games through nds bootstrap on flashcart, but in twlmenu settings in addition to running games through nds bootstrap you can also choose run them in b4ds mode or not. so it sounds like running nds bootstrap from slot-1 doesnt necessarily use b4ds? what's the difference?

it makes sense that nds bootstrap on dsi/3ds sd card would have compatibility problems because you need to "train" games to run from sd card instead of slot 1, but if nds bootstrap is running from slot 1 on twilight menu with flashcart microsd access and all that good stuff, do you have better compatibility running games with bootstrap on slot 1 compared to bootstrap on dsi sd card? what would the difference in compatibility be like if any?

I would really rather have the flashcart kernel loader working with all my games because I know that loader has perfect compatibility and I wont have issues, but if I dont lose compatibility by switching to nds bootstrap (and still higher compatibility than running from dsi sd card), then I will switch to using nds bootstrap instead of wood kernel loader, because the games that didnt work when I have the slot 1 scfg stuff enabled work fine if I run them through nds bootstrap.

edit:
You know what, I just realized... with slot 1 scfg access, I dont need to run dsi-enhanced games from dsi sd card with bootstrap to run them in dsi mode because your black magic fuckery enables ds flashcarts to run in dsi mode... I can put white 2 on my flashcart instead of dsi sd card, probably have way less issues with the game, and not even have to sacrifice dsi-enhanced functionality...

B4DS mode is what's used for running games (both DS and DSiWare) from the DS flashcard while running in DS mode (on DS Phat or Lite models, or just launching the flashcard from DSi/3DS System Menu).
If you switch the setting on in TWLMenu++ Settings, it'll fully switch the console into DS mode. In addition, the 8MB+ RAM setting will make the console run as if it we're a DS Debug/Development unit.

With nds-bootstrap, compatibility on flashcards is slightly lower than on DSi/3DS SD card, due to some features (such as card read DMA) not working (properly) on flashcards.

I usually just ran DSi exclusive/enhanced games from my 3DS' SD Card.
Well, them and SoulSilver, so that I can use the infrared capability of my White (2) cartridges to use my Pokéwalker. But maybe that "black magic fuckery" could be a better solution for most of that.
