I was reading up on some of the forums lately and was wondering if there is a safe way (no Wii bricking) to get WiiWare titles on my Wii. I have all the necessary WAD files to install but I am unsure if I should just install them, or if there is a different way to install them without filling up my NAND. It was suggested I use my emuNANd for WiiWare, but I am unsure on how to do this. As well, to install a DLC update to a WiiWare title, do I just install the WAD normally through a WAD manager and it updates the title? Any help is appreciated.

I just install WiiWare to NAND and then use the Wii's Data Management screen to move them to my SD card.

Yes to installing DLC WADs the same way as normal was (through a WAD manager).

Oh and they are still able to be played this way? Someone told me they didn't work when used on an SD card. Would I have to use the SD card menu or anything to set it up?

for my wiiware installs, I created an emunand in usb loader gx. there's an option there to build one of the current system along with installing wads. this is on the vwii though, but it should be the same process on the wii.

I have two emunands. one is for almost everything except for things that require neek. I only have two games like that, so I made a second emunand that was blank just for those two games. the two games are in my original emunand as well. that will make the games show up. then, in the game's menu I point to my second emunand, so that it doesn't have to mount the full emunand. I know it seems complicated, but it's not so bad.

Install Priiloader or BootMii as boot2 if possible (or both if you like) then you are protected from banner bricks from bad WADs. That's the only thing you'll have to worry about really. But yeah, emuNAND lets you fit way more games on there without using the SD card menu that literally just copies the game into NAND when you try to launch it.

Is there a tutorial video setting it up with emunand? I've got it set up and all my WADs installed but in the SD card menu. I have bootmii as an iOS I believe.

Edit: I was also wondering if anything might go wrong because I installed WADs until I got a ret -1010 error, which meant storage space is out, but I had to move a few things to the SD to get above 0 blocks, are any of these files now corrupted?

Edit 2: After digging around a bit, I found out that not all games are compatible with emunand. I don't have a problem loading them from my SD card menu, so I will continue to do that, thanks for the help everyone.

As someone above mentioned you can create it from the USB loader settings, at least in USB Loader GX, it's pretty simple to do so a guide shouldn't be needed.

Holy cow I need to do this. Can you tell me how please? Will it format my hd?

If it was simple we wouldn’t be asking. So can you tell us how please? Also most important will doing so format the hard drive?

there's an option in I think it might be the features section. I'm not at my wii u atm, so I can't say for certain it's in that section. anyway, it won't format the drive, just make an emunand of the current system.

it's both easy and hard I guess.
The concept it's easy to understand and use, but can take long steps to setup as you first need to test and be sure each or your nands are working properly BEFORE installing wads to each of them.

A) first, create two emuNAND :
1. by editing the EmuNAND path in usbgx settings, dump your own nand, one of which will be your "main".
2. if you need neek for games from another region, you'd better generate a new empty clean NAND for that specific region with modmii, and put it on your device too, in another folder.
You could dump your own NAND and then set neek's hidden menu "region free" but it might not work with all games. up to you to test!

for example :
nands/nand1/
nands/nand2/

or
nands/mine/
nands/eur/

or
nands/mine/
nands/neek_eur/
nands/neek_jpn/
nands/neek_usa/

or whatever you like, as long as you understand what folders and subfolders are.

B)
Install ALL your games (working and non working) to your "main" emuNAND.

C)
install non working games (YES, again, install them twice!) to specific emuNAND (by editing the emuNAND path in usbgx before installing the WAD, or using ShowMiiWad tool on PC)

D)
display your "main" emuNAND in USBGX to display all your games.
select the game which is not working with your main setup, go to its settings, change the "emuNAND path" to use the proper path (for example, if it's a jpn game, you'll want it to use your neek_jpn folder).
select whether you want that game to use Full emuNAND mode, or neek mode.

you understand the idea?
You see ALL your library without the need to change the displayed path every time, and each game can use individual folders, and setup (full emuNAND, or neek mode).
that's just a lazy mode, you could just change the displayed path whenever you need it instead of installing all games multiple times and changing their settings one by one.

Of course, you FIRST need to setup neek properly, with proper video mode settings, region free or not, etc. and be sure it WORKS and BOOTS, BEFORE installing wads to it !
doing things randomly, or in wrong order, or in haste because you want things quickly and think you can skip steps, or following blindly a guide without understanding WHY you do something, is sure to make your setup not working. you need to think by yourself a little and understand what you are doing. if you don't understand and just "push buttons" because a guide tells you to "press A, A , B and A again" without reading the on screen info, you are doing things wrong and shouldn't mod any consoles.

if you install a WAD on real NAND, and move it to SD menu, you'll need your SysMenu to use a patched IOS. cIOS70 or cIOS80 based on the one you are using. run syscheck to verify if your IOS is official or patched. do NOT install random files for the wrong console ! do not mix Wii, vWii and wii-mini guides!
SD menu installed games can't be launched from a loader (yet). you might see them listed, but it won't launch! it requires a "game decompressing and installation to SysNAND" before being launched. if you don't have enough free space on your internal memory, it'll not work.

@Cyan , that explains why I couldn't run wads from sd. is there a tutorial on doing that? this is for the virtual wii btw.

on vWii, you need to run "vWii cIOS80 installer"
it'll patch that IOS, which is the one used by sysMenu, and will allow running unsigned channels from SD.

You might wonder why you can launch channels on sysMenu but not on SDMenu without cIOS80.
On Wii & vWii, the WAD channel signature is not checked when running an already installed channel, only at install time !
wad manager is using AHB + live IOS patches or a cIOS to bypass the signature check at install time, so it works, you can then launch the game from sysmenu.
but launching from SD menu is ALSO installing the game to sysmenu. remember, I said on SD it needs to decompress and install to SysNAND before launching, which is done in the background. it actually install the game as hidden channel on sysmenu until you launch a different SDmenu game, then that hidden game is deleted and replaced with the new one.

When we do this where is it located on the SD card?

The game, or the DLC?
I don't think the DLC is transferred to SD, only the channel's main data. it's located in the /private/ folder if I remember correctly. or maybe that folder is only for savegames or screenshots. I never used the SD menu so maybe I'm wrong.

@Cyan @Badablek @jeannotte

Hello! I had tried the settings (IOS224 - Force PAL60) for a wiiware (MetalSlugX NTSC-U) the screen had freezer on "loading", I had extinguished then relight, then I had launch loadergx and there
he couldn't find my HDD (FAT32/NTFS) anymore !!! ??? So I no longer had access to my emunand! To recover my system I just delete "GXGameSettings.cfg" (where there are the parameters I entered for MetalSlugX (NTSC-U)) and my HDD was recognized again and detected. The Dump Wii and GameCube works without problem but my wiiware no longer works (Except the 2 that I had installed in chain on the NAND before transferring it to HDD)
When I launch a Wiiware (which I install via LoaderGX 1272 Mod) via this path: Homebrew Channel - LoaderGX - Wiiware; the game does not start and it comes back to the Homebrew Channel.
When I launch a Wiiware (which I install via LoaderGX 1272 Mod) via this path: Wii menu - LoaderGX chain - Wiiware; the game does not start and it returns to the Wii Menu. I have them all uninstalling and reinstalling without success. : '( Is it special anyway? No ?? A game setting that made my HDD no longer detect ?? And then the Wiiware that no longer works. With your experience, do you have a consistent explanation for this? ?: '( HELP! How do I get it to work again? What setting jumped and bugged the system ?? I no longer understand anything :'(

Now, when I do "display Emunand channels" in LoaderGX 1272 Mod I have the Boutique, Mii, Photo and News channels which are marked "NTSC-K" or it was "PAL" before the transfer of the Nand to HDD. Could someone explain to me?

If you do all this will WiiWare games on the EmuNAND still appear on the Wii home menu as a Channel? I want some of them to.

No.

Such titles appear on the emuNAND Wii system menu as channels. Remember that's what emunand is - a second, separate, artificial system menu.

What Cyan was describing was to use a different program to browse titles - USBLoader GX. Such programs can see both the titles installed to your realnand Wii system menu and the emunand Wii system menu, so people who have titles installed to both realnand and emunand typically use them.

It is technically possible to install forwarder channels to your Wii system menu that switch between emunand and real nand, so you could assemble at least the appearance of such a combined Wii system menu. But it would be a lot of work - a lot of one-Wii-specific work. I don't know anyone who has bothered instead of just using USB Loader GX or Wiiflow or some other homebrew software that can browse installed titles.

Thank you for the response. Maybe I will just make my Wii boot into USBLoaderGX by default and skip the Wii home menu all together.
