Hacking NDS lite R4 "Couldn't find _DS_MENU.SYS"

Title. I can only find solutions for ds_menu.dat and ome reddit thread where a mega link to a solution is dead. Does anyone have a solution.
I'm using a 512mb microsd card but also have a 2gb microsd and this R4 card

with a DS lite

i am pretty sure you get that error because you don't have the r4 software on the sd card. can you tell me what's on the sd card? and, what ds do you have?
i have found the r4 site, you can download the software from that site however it does look a bit sketchy, but the files are also available on this forum (i think)

I downloaded various firmwares from different sources (like the snoopy r4 and wood firmware but none worked, same error)

I'm using a DS lite usg-001

Use TWiLight Menu++ or RetroGameFan's Multi-Card Update as those are highly recommended.

No. TWiLight Menu++ is a file explorer for both the DS and DSi, it can also launch DS games.

nvm, someone on a reddit thread i made gave me a solution and it worked

I can't post the thead because im a new user but you can go to the r/flashcarts sub reddit and search "NDS lite R4 "Couldn't find _DS_MENU.SYS""
