why Gamestop why ?!

so today i went to the mall to buy a friend a present for her birthday . since i was already at the mall , i decided to spend the $25 giftcard i got from my birthday @ Gamestop/EBGames .
so once i got there , i picked up the Bad Company 2 case from the PC section and handed it to the sales associate . in the end , he gave me the exact same case , and the CD just came from some drawer . then he used those clear circles to seal the game . it got me thinking ; what the hell ? the game is labeled as "New" yet he did everything as if it was used .

i look at the disc ; it has a few smudges on it meaning it's not new .
that circle seal ; it's used for games that were already opened .
why the hell didn't this game have a plastic seal like any other new game ?

so i was thinking , what if it is just well , opened to prevent stealing ? i tried believing that until i got home .
popped the disc in , and ran installation .
it asked for a CD key , so i started searching through the case . i found absolutely no codes except for the one on the back of the instruction manual .
i try it out , "invalid CD key" . ohkay , maybe i just read it wrong . i try it again with possible misinterpretations for the letters . "invalid CD key" .

i am returning this game tomorrow .__.
telling Gamestop, WHAT THE HELL ?! you guys really messed up here .

Yeah, welcome to Gamestop. You're probably better off buying it on Steam anyway.

My best advice is to spend Gamestop gift cards on older games. They've got some decent used game prices, most used PS2 games are <$10. My friend picked up Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition there for like $8.

the Gamestop at that mall is like bleh . their used section hardly has any selection . mostly overpriced , used games for new-ish/recent games that just get marked down my $5 or $10 .

I have learned that any place is better than gamestop when it comes to games it a sad fact considering how many people go there.

Try to get a new copy of Bad Company 2 afterwards. I have so much fun playing it with my friends.

Good luck on returning.they take nothing back that is opened...so pretty much you won't get anything back...yell at the gamestop guy!it works!I yelled at him when he wouldn't do what I wanted and he finally gave me what I wanted..

Am I the only one that seems to actually get what I want from there? The Gamestop where I shop seems to be pretty good. Though yeah, I would want my money back if I was you.

The GameStop and EBGames stores where I live are pretty good as well.

no doubt i've had good deals with them when it came to console gaming . no problem , although it'd be nicer if they lowered their prices for the used games . i don't believe it was the employees decision to give me the disc like that . however , it's more like the company itself that probably instructed the workers to do such actions .

i talked to my dad with it . he's agreed to return it , and ask for an exchange for a new , plastic wrap sealed game . if i had the choice , i would've bought the game over on Steam , but with that new limit Bell is making , i don't feel comfortable wasting bandwidth for my games . i'd rather give it to my fam. instead who watches a lot of TFC through an On-Demand box which runs through the internet .

i still remember my first pre-order from them . i got FFXIII pre-ordered and got 2 posters instead of just 1 since we told the EBGames guy that the poster never game but it was actually in the box . the online receipt said it was canceled , but it was still in the box o_o .

Most stores in New Zealand do that, though they don't go as far as sticking the new seal back on. I buy any hard copy games online as they come unopened.

Well, as long as you still have the receipt, they are obligated to take it back and exchange it for one that does work.

My EBgames is great. Oddly it seems like they work the opposite of what happened to you. I remember when I picked up the last used copy of Crisis Core, the case was kind of crappy, so the guy goes into the back and gets me a brand new (or at least everything was pristine and it was plastic wrapped like new) copy and still charged me the used price.

I've seen tons of people bashing Gamestop, but I've had lots of good experiences. I've even had a couple of great experiences. Especially at one Gamestop I frequented while I lived in the area for a few months, the manger was really nice, and over-all amazing.

If they give you any shit about you lying or anything else, just show them the receipt with the timestamp on it and tell them to check the security tapes for that exact time. There they can see the employee fucking everything up with their own eyes. Even if they don't want to pull the tapes, it'll show how confident you are in what you saw, and it'll be sure to make them start sweating... >=]

Good luck returning it if its been opened. even if you have the reciept and your story is true (which i believe you) but there's a good chance they will try to screw you really bad and make you have to have to sell it back for like under 10 bucks.

If worst comes to worst look online and see if you can find a cereal code site that lets you use the disc anyways.

i am confident .
i gave the game to my dad , and he's one that can be supah serious and persuasive . i wonder what Gamestop does ... oh yeah , did i forget to mention , while me and my dad looked at the case , we were reflecting it under light . then we saw some writing on it with someone's name, address and phone number . clearly, this isn't new for sure now.
