Operating System BS

You can't have a neutral discussion about Windows here because some random weirdo will come and scream 'INSTALL WONUX YOU FAILURE' at you. On other hand, if someone mentions Linux then there will be that one guy which will start Mac OSX > everything rant or even worse Windows > Linux rant. [I used Linux to describe every damn Distro which is out there] And yes, I also saw the horrible attacks of Windows and Mac OSX skids.

Every OS is okay, ffs. No need to shit on other user for using OS of their own liking. If there is a post about malware outbreak and making useless panic storm of 'INSTALL LINUX BECAUSE IT'S SAFE!' no, it's not. Most servers run Linux and they get cracked in just matter of seconds. You can still get infected on Linux, nothing is 100% safe and secure. Look at Android, you can get easily infected just by downloading and executing simple apk file. Get Wannacrypt and run it under Wine. Bam, your shit is encrypted

'But felek, you need wine to run it so linux is still safe!' *facepalm* Uh, this doesn't prove anything?

Second: 'x OS is superior than x' This might be true because it might have more features than x one but you can easily code those features for x system if you feel like doing so. Oh, you mean those fancy graphical effects which hogs RAM and GPU resources? Well, if your pc is strong enough then it's okay i guess?

'Opensource' bullshit. Your software is as open as my software. [Aka, closed af] Source code might be on Github but some features including kernel are always, believe me, always closed source. This is an expection for some but this opensource shit is pissing everyone off. 'Open-source' is a marketing scam to bait users.

As before you peasants strike up my ass: I used many Linux Distros and overally, operating systems. Every OS had it's flaws and good points. I never stumbled upon a 100% perfected and safe Linux Distro or operating system in my whole, damn life.
Now, let's see how much people will flame me for whatever i wrote here.
Question: Your views on this 'x os > x os' crap?
And as always, see you in a next blog post.

Ik this would go down hill when I read it,
Good points though, I see the community can't have a normal discussion on anything. Atleast it isn't as bad as @Vipera 's (daddy snek lord) post.

@Shadowfied
*pats* It's okay, no need to be angry.

@GerbilSoft well my computer have unsupported hardware so i had to make a custom kernel and compile it, but yeah most users download binaries

This went downhill pretty fast..

A few things.
  • Linux is entirely opensource, or at least the kernel is as it is distributed under the GPL. However it is entirely possible to load proprietary kernel modules or proprietary firmware on a Linux system.
  • "Linux servers get cracked in seconds" - The primary issue here is that that is usually due to poor permission settings/unsafe software (SQL injection for example). It is not an issue with either the Linux kernel or the coreutils (what most people consider linux tools such as ls and mkdir are actually part of the gnu-coreutils package), it is a problem with poorly written software. If you use a static site generator (such as jekyll) and run it in a private directory (for the sake of simplicity, let's do ~ ) and make it build to /var/www/html (the default location) and ensure that /var/www/html has no public write permissions set to it, your site literally cannot be broken. For a simpler comparison, while Veracrypt (and it's predecessor TrueCrypt) offer unbreakable encryption, if you are going to leave your password out in the open, then that encryption is moot.
  • To counteract your WannaCry argument... you still need to be mentally dumb enough to run WannaCry in the first place. It is not possible to run things under wine unless you execute them. Having a reasonable level of intelligence before doing stuff is always advised.
  • Finally, Windows has telemetry up the ass. Linux doesn't (and if a distro maker (say Ubuntu since they are the most likely) goes nuts and does include telemetry bullshit you can always switch distros fairly easily).
But yes, the OS debate is kinda stupid, but only because Linux has already won it. It's just due to old views on Linux that the system isn't nearly as popular and is still considered the hacker OS.

Politics, Operating Systems and Nintendo. The 3 big no-no's of discussions here I've noticed.

@Felek666 Certainly not angry, just disappointed in you, and I just think it's disrespectful, especially when there's such a massive amount of people who have sacrificed time and completely ignored making money from projects, solely for the well-being of other communities, development, science and research etc.

Felek666, open source is not a marketing ploy. At least with open source software you can look at the code and see whats in it. Also, a lot of routers nowadays run opensource software like asus-wrt and even the nintendo switch runs FreeBSD under the hood but since it's under the BSD license(cuck license) we don't get to see their changes.

@Plstic No, Nintendo Switch does not use FreeBSD. It uses FreeBSD's networking stack.

PS4 actually does run a variant of FreeBSD.

@Memoir - Nintendo only gives universal agreement here no matter whether you are fanning over them or heavily criticizing them for their actions.

Linux Users: LINUX IS SUPPAH SAFE
did you know there's one simple command that deletes all things on the hard drive? and since most vps uses linux if someone cracked in the vps, they can simply go to each server and do that command. the funny thing is even if you had a discord bot on your vps, and you forgot to make it so only you can do eval, guess what? they do that command and boom.

Don't use it if you don't like it, but even Microsoft and Apple disagree with you about the scam of Open Source and actively depend on it.

Now I think Linux is really cool, but I don't think I would use it on my personal computer, in that case I think Windows is more better. But if I want to use a raspberry pi and do cool stuff on it, then linux all the way.

@Jacklack3 yeah, and deleting your files in a windows server is so much harder... NOT. Learn to secure your server or get off the internet.
And how to backup, ffs.
