This place is HAUNTED!

This place is freaking haunted. NO JOKE

SMCC is a community college that is built on the grounds of a 200+ year old fort. It's been around since sometime in the 1800's or earlier, and saw the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. Before the fort was a settlement from some of the very first Maine colonists.

There's a freakin' graveyard on campus that the colonists used, so old that the writing on most of the headstones have eroded away, and many of the headstones are simply flat stones with no markings they stuck in the ground.

The first few times I heard noises last semester when I started, I dismissed it as the fact the buildings are very, very old (most are the original fort buildings), and they were just settling and such at night. ... "Huh, those footsteps were probably just the wind." ... "Did I just hear a door? Naah..."

As you may already know, I'm a Security guard here at SMCC. Most of my shifts are at night, meaning I have to go through buildings by myself locking doors and turning off lights. I used to have no problem with this.

I used to be able to go into dark rooms without a second thought.

I used to be sane.

Here's just SOME of the most recent experiences I had, all of which were very late at night when the employees and students are long gone:

- In Howe, a former hospital when the fort was still active, I heard a muffled voice down a hall soon after I locked the door and was about to turn off the secluded lights. I searched the building, shouting "Security!", but nobody answered and I couldn't find anyone. I didn't hear any of the doors open, so nobody left while I was searching... :wtf:

- In Cates, I heard a door open and scrape across the carpet. This especially freaked me out, because it came from the direction of a door that I had JUST checked to be locked.

-In Tech, I was going up one of the staircases and heard a door below me, perhaps 2 levels, click as if it was opening/closing. The building was dark and I was the only one in it.

-Mckernan, the hotel that everyone says is haunted. I turned off a light in a locked room, then an hour or so later it was on again.
(Other guards have seen dark apparitions, heard footsteps, and one heard someone slapping their hand on the bars holding up the handrail on the stairs, like a kid running down the stairs and hitting the bars on the way down. Not to mention the lights turning themselves on again after they leave, like what happened to me.)

Mckernan, Cates, Captain's House, and areas of other buildings also give you a strange feeling in your gut, as if you really, REALLY shouldn't be in there.

I couldn't sleep last night at all. I think I'm going crazy.

...I don't think I'm an Atheist anymore :(

Good luck with it![/quote]

If paranormal investigators worked, then one of them would have taken the Randi prize. Alas, 'tis not to be.

Thinking if you can't beat them, join 'em - I can do exorcisms for a low cost, can also do them over the Internet :)

Tonight I didn't experience anything. We're too busy dealing with freezing rain, wind and flooding, LOL

Sorry for the lack of updates for a week. I've been stuck on dispatch the last few shifts :glare:

I definitely had an experience tonight, though, and in a building I've never had any experiences or feelings whatsoever!

I know a few of the officers have said that they've felt something in the building before, but most - including me - have never felt anything.

Tonight, I felt it. BADLY.

In Harborview, I locked the door behind me and walked down the halls turning off the lights as usual. Usually I feel quite at home in Harborview; it's a very old building that was recently renovated within the past decade. (it smells like my Grandparents' home ^^ )

Tonight, however, I suddenly got an extremely oppressive feeling in my chest and head. Even though it was in the 70s (Fahrenheit), I felt my hairs standing on end, and I suddenly had goosebumps. I felt my pulse racing, and I kept looking around, just like I was being chased/followed by something evil. Halfway down the hall, I actually started feeling sick to my stomach.

I'm not being sarcastic, or making anything up; Harborview, the place that usually feels homely and friendly, had turned 100% polar opposite. I felt if I didn't get out, something bad would happen to me....

I can't describe how bizarre this was tonight. A place that usually feels like home, suddenly becoming a place that feels worse than a back alley in downtown Portland at midnight.

As soon as I left Harborview and locked the door behind me, the sick feeling was gone and I felt normal again....

This is the second time on campus I've had a major experience. I'm talking about the time I had the door open behind me in Cates, then this. The other doors I've heard opening and closing were far away and quiet compared to Cates, and I've never, EVER had such an oppressive feeling of this magnitude on this campus. I don't know if McKernan could even compare to what I experienced just an hour ago... That's pretty bad
