This place is HAUNTED!

This place is freaking haunted. NO JOKE

SMCC is a community college that is built on the grounds of a 200+ year old fort. It's been around since sometime in the 1800's or earlier, and saw the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. Before the fort was a settlement from some of the very first Maine colonists.

There's a freakin' graveyard on campus that the colonists used, so old that the writing on most of the headstones have eroded away, and many of the headstones are simply flat stones with no markings they stuck in the ground.

The first few times I heard noises last semester when I started, I dismissed it as the fact the buildings are very, very old (most are the original fort buildings), and they were just settling and such at night. ... "Huh, those footsteps were probably just the wind." ... "Did I just hear a door? Naah..."

As you may already know, I'm a Security guard here at SMCC. Most of my shifts are at night, meaning I have to go through buildings by myself locking doors and turning off lights. I used to have no problem with this.

I used to be able to go into dark rooms without a second thought.

I used to be sane.

Here's just SOME of the most recent experiences I had, all of which were very late at night when the employees and students are long gone:

- In Howe, a former hospital when the fort was still active, I heard a muffled voice down a hall soon after I locked the door and was about to turn off the secluded lights. I searched the building, shouting "Security!", but nobody answered and I couldn't find anyone. I didn't hear any of the doors open, so nobody left while I was searching... :wtf:

- In Cates, I heard a door open and scrape across the carpet. This especially freaked me out, because it came from the direction of a door that I had JUST checked to be locked.

-In Tech, I was going up one of the staircases and heard a door below me, perhaps 2 levels, click as if it was opening/closing. The building was dark and I was the only one in it.

-Mckernan, the hotel that everyone says is haunted. I turned off a light in a locked room, then an hour or so later it was on again.
(Other guards have seen dark apparitions, heard footsteps, and one heard someone slapping their hand on the bars holding up the handrail on the stairs, like a kid running down the stairs and hitting the bars on the way down. Not to mention the lights turning themselves on again after they leave, like what happened to me.)

Mckernan, Cates, Captain's House, and areas of other buildings also give you a strange feeling in your gut, as if you really, REALLY shouldn't be in there.

I couldn't sleep last night at all. I think I'm going crazy.

...I don't think I'm an Atheist anymore :(

I'll try, but I don't have a very good camera at all, and only a 64mb card. I entered a contest to win a Flip on campus, though, and if I win I said my submission would be to tour the most active buildings and try to get evidence. As far as I understand, you enter the contest, and if you're selected you record whatever you said your entry would be, and if you win you keep the camera. Or something. I dunno, the poster was kinda confusing.
Yeah ^^ Pics or GTFO and if girls ghosts, tits or GTFO.
That made me LAWL

If anything this stuff should make you atheist. Since christians believe spirits pass on to either heaven or hell (right? not sure since I'm an atheist myself).
This is no christian stuff m'boy.
Ghosts do not exist, so you'll be fine. If you think otherwise, get some proof and you'll be rich and famous.
HAHA! I used to think like that before I came here. How do you describe the disembodied voice, the doors opening and closing on their own, and lights turning themselves on?

Proof won't make me rich and famous. I don't care about being rich and famous anyway, I just want to get some proof so all these people reading this thread and not posting (Yeah, I see you. Sitting there at your computer having a good chuckle  ) and my non-security friends will believe me.

If you can prove ghosts, you will indeed be rich and famous.

The fact you know of the history of the place may help this, now you might say my explanations are far fetched, but they are none the less far more plausible than the ghost theory - consider the age of the planet, the countless deaths, why don't we see ghosts roaming the streets? Why haven't we seen a dinosaur ghost? What about a black person? Nope, the ghosts that are reported are frightfully generic.

- In Howe, a former hospital when the fort was still active, I heard a muffled voice down a hall soon after I locked the door and was about to turn off the secluded lights. I searched the building, shouting "Security!", but nobody answered and I couldn't find anyone. I didn't hear any of the doors open, so nobody left while I was searching... wtf.gif

Auditory hallucinations are actually a very common occurrence. People who do urban exploration are also very good at hiding, and are unlikely to answer to calls of security :) Hearing a door open is neither here nor there, they could have hidden.

- In Cates, I heard a door open and scrape across the carpet. This especially freaked me out, because it came from the direction of a door that I had JUST checked to be locked.

A prank? - this is to my mind freakier than the first incident you cited, but this wouldn't be enough to my mind to prove the existence of ghosts. For example I woke up once and saw my girlfriend standing right next to me, so I spoke to her - then noticed she wasn't there... she was at work. Explanation? Sleep paralysis, some people see witches, some see UFOs, I saw my very alive girlfriend!

-In Tech, I was going up one of the staircases and heard a door below me, perhaps 2 levels, click as if it was opening/closing. The building was dark and I was the only one in it.

To your knowledge. They employ security for a reason, that reason being people will often intrude into empty buildings. When I was younger a few friends and I used to go into a School when it was closed and scoff food from the kitchens! I often wonder if a security guard thought we were ghosts!

Other guards are lying, playing a prank on the new kid. Lights turning on with an hour gap in between in a hotel that you believe and have been told is haunted is freaky, but nonetheless not unexplainable via rational thinking.

I would LOVE to believe in ghosts, but wanting to believe isn't enough for me to throw logic out the window. It's worth saying I've stayed the night in places said to be haunted before now, no problems whatsoever, I thought it was funny. Not calling you a liar btw, perhaps if I also experienced this I'd be making the same post you did, alas I haven't :(

Actually...apparitions are often caused by demons, so...yeah, they do exist.
Also, how do you ignore something that shouldn't be possible? How do you ignore a door that you had just checked to be locked opening when you walk away with your back turned?? (Yeah, I GTFO when that happened. Something was sneaking up on me...)
Pretend it didn't happen.

Nor are there ghosts and demons :) Prove that either exist, with testable evidence and I will personally ensure you are given $1 Million plus that is sitting in a secure bank account courtesy of James Randi.

Of course no one has EVER proven any pseudo-scientific claim, not once :) I would appreciate being proved wrong I really would. Occam's razor.

I've never experienced any firsthand and hope never to, but demons do exist, and they can cause this sort of thing.

I, for one, believe you. There is no real reason for someone like you to make a thread of this nature, just to trick the rest of us.

And, so I can have some bandwagon fun, all you need to do is fire up the Demon Summoning Program on your Demonica and try negotiation :P

Again, despite that bit up there, I do believe you.

I don't doubt that he thinks there's a ghost.

I just don't believe that there is a ghost.

Sorry for not replying for so long. I'm at work right now.

In fact, we'll be beginning lockup within the hour. I saw lights on on the third floor of McKernan, the hotel, but I hope the staff turns them off before we start heading out.

I REALLY hope I can win that Flip camera, so I can prove to you all I'm not pulling your legs. The camera I have now is very, VERY low resolution, is 10 years old, and only has a 64mb CompactFlash card. Even if I took a pic of something, it would be too pixelated and debatable.

Damn dude, sorry to hear about that. I would either do one of three things: Leave the job, Ask to work days, or get a paranormal investigator in there so you know you aren't going insane.

Good luck with it!
