My really stupid method of connecting a DS to the internet

Okay, I haven't made one of these in a while.

Anyways, I've been wanting to play MKDS on wiimmfi for a while, I just didn't have a reliable way of doing that. Until now

Okay, here are the steps of what I did:
  1. Create a 2.4GHz hotspot on my phone
  2. Repeat that hotspot using a Netgear Repeater
  3. Connect a D-Link router to the repeater via ethernet
  4. Configure the D-Link router to have a WEP connection
  5. Connect the DS to it and do the rest of the shit.
The reason why I did it this way is because if I connected the DS directly to the Netgear Repeater, I'd get timeouts or DHCP errors. If I connected it directly to my phone, it just wouldn't work. If I skipped the repeater, it also wouldn't work because the D-Link router I have doesn't support repeating.

I was so happy when I did this, and then I played 2 matches with one person and unplugged everything. Worth it.

I admire what you have done to get that working lol.

If you want a plug and play solution in the future something like a TP-Link TL-WR703N flashed with the OpenWrt firmware is great for legacy WEP WiFi stuff like the DS.

I simply plug the USB cable in to my PC and a few seconds later I have a WEP wireless network ready for the DS to use. I then simply unplug the usb cable when finished and the insecure wireless network is gone.

I got the TL-WR703N for something like £5 delivered on dx.com years ago.

Wow, I can't even imagine how you came up with such a complicated workaround. Nonetheless, good job :P

I use almost as many SSH tunnels at work so this is not stupid to me, it's very creative to get the DS online again. But why do you use your phone's data connection?

I have been thinking of using a Raspberry Pi 2 and set it up to be an accesspoint for the DS and PSP somehow.

I use my phones data connection because it's more convenient for me, and if I want to take the setup somewhere else, I don't need to reconfigure everything

@Giodude Chances are people are already leeching your wifi. You should change to WPA/WPA2 unless you don't care.
