I'm not a huge Digital buyer, granted everything in my gaming laptop is digital. But when it comes to console i prefer disk. Atleast until a console can handle something 2tb or larger (and at a cheaper price). 500gb is like nothing in these systems sadly.

Last time i went to gamestop it was like pulling teeth to buy a steam card. the guy did not want to sell me a $50 steam card. he said i could get the same games on 360 or ps3 cheaper and when i was done with them i could trade them in and buy more games. the problem was this was during a steam sale and other person over heard me and we talked about what games were on sale and after i finally got my steam moneys it was printed on paper i was told i am banned from that store and no longer welcome there or any other store he would be working at

Sadly that story seems incredibly fake, however not impossible. You could of easily sent complaints about these actions being taken against you to get that manager fired / demoted. I'm more surprised you didnt even attempt to do something.

I know a place where there are 3 Gamestops in less than a half square mile, and a 4th just slightly further away. Seems crazy, but they must have been profitable as they've all been there for ages.

Never underestimate inertia when it comes to business type things.

No offense fabulous, esteemed Gahars, but I think the headline is a bit misleading... "Slightly scaling back on gaming" would be much more accurate than "moving away from games."

A bit sensational? Sure, but I'd argue that this is still a move away from games and towards another direction entirely. After all, they aren't just closing 120-130 stores; they're opening 200-250 Spring Mobile stores, 20-25 Simply Mac stores, and 100-150 Cricket locations (I omitted all the numbers for space reasons). In total, it's a shift of 500 or so stores, give or take. That's significant, especially when using this move to project how Gamestop will operate from here on out.

I kinda agree with Lestworth on this. It sounds really extreme.Either you seriously gave a big reaction, or that guy really is crazy and deserves to be removed from his position.

Well, if Gamestop close their stores where will all the dumpster divers go to get their broken controllers and posters ?

Yes! Hell yes! :ha: Think off all that perfectly good working stuff all going to get thrown on a dump and left to spoil!

Fair enough. Even so though, I think when most people hear "moving away," they think more of a shift in focus to the point where it's not even their forte, which it still is in this case.

I've been in a couple of malls that have 2 Gamestop stores - the 1st GS, and a competitor's location (EB Games) that they bought out, re-branded, and kept going. Always seemed a little odd to keep both locations in the same mall open to me...

The first part of the story sounds plausible enough, so that probably happened.

I'm guessing that either the last part didn't happen, or there's a big chunk missing from the middle of the story! :)

Well I never traded my games because the trade in value of my games were like in the cents area rarely in the dollar area if they give better value back it might be better income? ( not really sure ) but I hope they don't stop selling new games I would hate to try to find a new game store besides GameStop target or walmart.

Thieves, that what game stop is, selling new (re wrap open box) games and most of them freak out when there's a returned item, plus most of them don't honor their return policy, plus buying hand helds and findings dead pixels or yellow screen " hmm there's nothing wrong with it. " no reason for a return. Bastards

I haven't seen Gamestop freak out when I return games, consoles, etc, but then again, I found a fantastic store that has a better trading/credit system than Gamestop, but it's only in my home state, too bad it isn't more widespread.

Me and wifey was deciding on our next vacation, so I hung up a map on the wall, and give her a dart and said, wherever you hit, we will go. She threw the dart and it missed the map completely and fell into a trash can below on floor. So I said "ok Florida it is."
