Now, tell me more...

He installed the game on top of an official already installed copy of the same game. It writes to app.db, that's why you see the icon move from where it was in the beginning in the last part of the video.

No, he didn't. He deleted the copy he used for dumping the game, then installed the copy he had dumped. That's why it moved to the last page.

Okay, I watched the 14-minute extended video of Vitamin dumping and decrypting the Geometry Wars game, however the fact that the game gets packaged into a VPK in a completely seperate "Vitamin" folder on the memory card leaves me skeptical once again.
Usually, my skepticism pays off by it being completely fake in the end, but in this day and age, anything could happen...

However on the other hand, the app just looks like too much work has been put into it just to be used for a bullshit prank, so I still have plenty of trust within this Team FreeK group.

In my opinion, solid evidence is still scarce at the moment, even when Wololo has claimed on Twitter that he has reason to believe it is legitimate, but again, even the wisest of people are easy to dupe at times and anything could happen...

Wololo has confirmed it is real FYI.

Wololo – ‏@frwololo

Now I feel I've been given sufficient proof that: - Vitamin is real - it decrypts eboot.bin - dumped games run on Henkaku enabled vitas

EDIT: Whoops look like this was already edited into the thread...

The problem here is that the hackers might never release there tool.

Yea, but Wololo has been a very prominent member of the scene for a long long time, if he says it's legit, you can take his word on it.

Not really
Say what you want to believe, but if Wololo seems to be confident enough that it will eventually release and is a legit thing, then most (if not, almost all) people following the scene are going to believe it is real and will release. And it probably is, and will. You've got your video footage for a start, and your instantly-working app which decrypts all of the content of a downloaded game/app. The method in the video is beginning to look legitimate enough for me as I play it back time and time again...

In the video he says "unfortunately we can not show you this part" and pulls the camera away, it sounds like he uses the home menu to switch to another application in the background....

I'm dubious.....

A bit later you can see they somehow mess with the Party application during the process where it says "bla bla will open the game manual now in another application...".
Soon after that you can see the top bar of the Vita where it shows all running applications ... the red dot on the right is the Party application.

They probably just created a pre-prepared VPK with the dumped files.
Think of it this way: The tool dumps the files, all you have to do next is join all of them in a VPK and done.
Maybe the Vita can't do this on the go, so, in order to cut a long lenghty video, they pre-prepared a VPK with the dumped files to install on the PoC video.

They will release it.

That sounds feasible; I definitely like your thinking there. However my next question is if the files are not getting pre-packaged into ZIPs, then where could the files possibly be ending up as they are being decrypted through the application? Just somewhere else on the memory card?

Well, that's the idea. I mean... Where else could it be?

They are directly written into the archive.
The game is 55MB in size, just look how long it takes for the whole process ;)

You can test it yourself by just copying a PFS disabled game onto another location on ux0: it's way faster than wha you see in the video.
