Tetris 99 now has offline modes as DLC

Tetris 99 has been a fairly popular game for Nintendo Switch Online users, but if you're more of an offline player, you'll still be able to get in on the fun as well, through the game's newly revealed Big Block Season Pass. This will allow for offline matches against the CPU, pitting you against 98 bots in the "CPU Battle Mode", or will let you play a "Marathon" mode to see how long you can last. A third offline mode is included, but won't be released until later this year. While Tetris 99's online mode can be played for free, assuming you have Nintendo Switch Online, you can grab the offline Big Block DLC for $9.99.

Another Grand Prix event will also be held in the game on May 17th, where you earn event points. Obtain 100 of them, and you'll unlock a Game Boy skin, which makes the game look like it once did on the classic handheld.

Those modes might replace my Puyo Puyo Tetris training routine (like endurance matches or endless marathon mode).
... if it wasn't 10 bucks for one new mode and one old mode that you'd get in any other modern Tetris game.

this is just like paying for dubbed instead of subbed for games that are not dubbed.
Fitting profile pic, mate. Gave me a good laugh.

So its free to play the online battle royale mode (which BTW is the main killer feature and sole purpose of this entire game), but you have to pay $10 to play the basic offline Tetris mode that everyone's been playing for decades and on pretty much every console and smart device?

Wait, if you need online sub to even download the game, then what happens if you buy the dlc but don't sub after? You just wasted $10?

The nes online requires a weekly internet connection check to see if your sub is still active to play. If this game is the same, then why not just make the game $10 instead of making it dlc? You still need sub to play online, and anyone can buy it to play offline. :wtf:

You can download the game even without a sub, you just weren't able to play it without online before now.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
