Super Mario RPG has leaked online

To little surprise, Super Mario RPG has leaked a week ahead of its scheduled release date.

Pinned for a November 17th retail release date, the game has already been dumped and shared online. Super Mario RPG for Nintendo Switch is a remake of the 1996 classic Super Nintendo game - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

OMG I just checked a

OMG I just checked and I can't believe the price tag. For such a cheap remake. Way to go once again Nintendo.
Debates about pricing are fair, and the game has admittedly always been relatively short for JRPG standards. But this is absolutely not a "cheap" remake. That would apply to "HD Remasters" such as Wind Waker, Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword which were more akin to minimally enhanced ports sold at a premium rather than remakes. Or on other systems, something like the "remasters" of The Last of Us or Spiderman. The 3DS versions of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask had pretty substantial graphical updates over their original N64 counterparts, but even they don't hold a candle to this game's overhaul.

Within the confines of keeping the original core game intact (unlike say the recent Resident Evil reboots), the Mario RPG remake is a staggeringly impressive and detailed overhaul of the original game's visuals and music. This cannot be overstated. The combat system is also immensely more polished and there are a bunch of quality of life improvements to the menu, shopping, etc. There is also new post game content with additional super bosses that are legitimately challenging. Again arguments about price are fair, but it is in no way a low effort remake. It is an exceedingly high effort one. One of the absolute best i've ever seen. Arte Piazza developed it, and they also handled the DS remakes for Dragon Quest 4, 5 and 6 which were also fantastic. Quality wise, they knocked Mario RPG out of the park as well.

Seriously ? lol what a joke. This remake is just the original SNES game with a new coat of paint, and a very cheap one by nowadays's gaming standards. It's fine for what it is but to pretend this is some "staggeringly impressive" and "exceedingly high effort" remaster is hysterical. And the quality of life improvements are things that can be found at romhacking.net... Gimme a break fanboy :rofl2::toot:

Good memories!! I remember renting the original SNES cartridge and playing it for a day, or if I was lucky, two days before returning it. Then, about a week later, renting it again only to find the data was erased or tampered  back then it was really sad. Later, my neighbor got it but he didn't knew english at all nor how to correctly play a game, so I was the one to go there every now and then to play. It was there that I fiinshed the game and saw all the great potential it has. Some years later, I got mine at last!! and had another blast playing it with all the time in the world. So much fun with the SNES.

I wonder, what things have been censored in this release? If anybody knows, please tell me. I'm sure there are more than a couple of things that are not "well received" by today standards!

Dead serious. And keep that console war cancer dead and buried in the 90s and try to behave like a grown adult...

I don't know what kind of "standards" you're comparing this to, but this is by all objective and reasonable standards a high effort remake. At least, up to the point before you start to get into "reboot" territory, like the new Resident Evil or Final Fantasy 7 "remakes". Games that barely still resemble the originals and are pretty much entirely new games.

Mario RPG Remake is not trying to be a reboot, i'm very relieved it isn't, it's just a massively enhanced overhaul of the original with greatly improved graphics and sound, a bunch of small but important quality of life changes and some new post game challenges. There aren't many remakes out there that can claim the same level of effort as this, that's simply a fact. It's reminiscent of the leap from the original NES/SNES versions of Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 4 to the PSP remakes. Except in Mario RPG's case, there weren't any other progressively upgraded versions released in between. Like I said though, the developer of this remake Arte Piazza also made Dragon Quest 4, 5 and 6 on DS. Which are also probably the best comparisons to the effort that went into Mario RPG remake, as they are themselves very high effort remakes of their own games as well.

And please, by all means link to the rom hack for the SNES version that implements the QoL features that were made to this game.

Only two examples come to mind. The Bruce Lee reference was cut (likely because his estate is reportedly difficult to deal with). And the Blackjack minigame in the casino was replaced with a card memorization game. Though the slots are still there. The suggestive "found Peach's ???" easter egg is actually still there. Some enemies have different names. But the English script is still like 95% based on the US SNES version. The secret boss has the same name, but they mixed in some of his original dialog cut from the JP version.

Ok to anyone that allegedly has this game, have they added new party members?
They did not. The content additions are some additional super bosses for the post game (and they are actually challenging and require both skill and strategy), as well as new more powerful weapons. If there's more beyond that, I haven't heard of it.

I also found out that they censored the "bouncy" animation from a certain character... Damn.

Thank you man. Going to keep looking for censorship changes.
