I never use them but I have yet to hear properly bad things about them. Please do share any stories you have.

Bought a ps3 at xmas from CEX , took it in last week as it wouldnt turn on , and the HDD was sluggish. Their first policy is to repair before replace , so i had to return home empty handed and awit their verdict . Their verdict never came after 5 days so as you cannot phone them (email only) i returned to the store to find they had sent the ps3 to some local DIY ps3 repairer and he may be in with it in a few days . OK PHNE ME WHEN ITS HERE!! few days later get a text saying itll be in store tuesday . Of i go late tuesday (to give them no chance to bullshit me) , Im here to collect my repaired ps3 , oh this one here , I dunno you tell me , well this is the only returned one we have , OK then is it repaired ,. The guy scans the serial , this isnt the one on your account . But its in the box you returned with the Blue gamepad . He then says oh i dunno whats going on , and gives me a different console out of the window. Im not really bothered as all now is well , however the service and complete cluelessness of the staff was extraordinary.. Just my experience :)

I've been in a couple of malls that have 2 Gamestop stores - the 1st GS, and a competitor's location (EB Games) that they bought out, re-branded, and kept going. Always seemed a little odd to keep both locations in the same mall open to me...
My town, Boone NC, used to have a GameStop in the local mall, AND another one literally only two minutes down the street from itat a strip mall by Walmart... Of course, the one in the regular mall shut down, being more hidden in a mall that's generally considered boring and without much advertisement of its existence, compared to the one outside at a strip mall by Walmart where everyone went. I really don't know why they had two.

Back in the Triangle area where I grew up, there's still two GameStops within minutes of each other, but it makes more sense because both are at major shopping centers that feature Walmart and Target respectively... But there was a THIRD ONE BETWEEN THOSE!!! That third one eventually closed down. But again, why was it there?
Well I never traded my games because the trade in value of my games were like in the cents area rarely in the dollar area if they give better value back it might be better income? ( not really sure ) but I hope they don't stop selling new games I would hate to try to find a new game store besides GameStop target or walmart.
I've only traded two games in to GameStop ever, and both of those were games that I had no care for whatsoever (I got them free for whatever reason) and knew they weren't worth taking the time to sell myself anyway. I only buy games new if I'm really confident I'll like them (Donkey Kong Country Returns), want to play them through regardless (Sonic Unleashed), or I want to support a developer I like. Otherwise I buy used, play instantly, and return within the week if I don't like them. If I really liked a game enough to play it all the way through, I don't see a reason to trade it in, even if I don't play it anymore. What if I want to play again in the future? There are many times that I've dusted off and replayed a game I beat years ago and thought I would never touch again, and I realize just how much money I would've wasted in the long run by trading it in.
Thieves, that what game stop is, selling new (re wrap open box) games and most of them freak out when there's a returned item, plus most of them don't honor their return policy, plus buying hand helds and findings dead pixels or yellow screen " hmm there's nothing wrong with it. " no reason for a return. Bastards
No offense, but has this actually happened to you multiple times? I've never had a problem with the one-week preowned return policy, usually with no reason except that I disliked whatever I bought, and they were totally fine... At multiple GameStops, too.

I'm not denying what happened to you, but it definitely sounds weird, and if it really is happening, whoever is denying to honor their return policy should be reported and fired.

Brilliant strategy Gamestop! If I may, I'd like to point your attention to a recently discovered niche in the marked. Turns out Blockbuster's gone bust - the DVD rental business is unattended! Forget Gamestop, it's time for Moviestop, guys!

You do realize they already have Moviestop? (Although it doesn't do rentals, only sales.)

Who needs Gamestop anyway?
Prices to high, used games that look like they were eaten before - no thanks.

You guys have no Media Markt or Saturn over there? ;)

In all fairness, this is kind of an inherent part of selling used media, whether it's GameStop or anywhere else. These companies know that some people only care if the product just works regardless of the packaging, so of course they'll sell it.

That said, if I owned a used game shop, I would give better trade incentives for CIB games and price them according to the condition of their cases or lack thereof.

In Australia we have EB Games aka Gamestop- and that's all, basically.

We used to have GAME but they closed down and I think they're just web-based now.

So if EB Games dies... all we have left is department stores like K-Mart, Big W and Target that sell only 8-9 games per console, 5 or 6 of them usually just crap shovelware that's only there because no one's buying them.

Except for JB Hifi, they have a fairly decent selection of games, but their locations are few and far between compared to EB Games.

I have the same problem with gamestop everyone else has, in the fact they're just a specialized pawn shop with a crazy unfair exchange ratio and a focus on creating a good image. They're just incorporating more of the pawn shop items.

The only purpose gamestop serves me is their exclusive bundles or extras and the few cheap accessories they're just trying to get rid of.

Compared to the average pawn shop model the ratio does not seem so bad, also though I am always in favour of "pile it high, sell it cheap" it seems not everybody is and therefore they get to charge us to do their brand management.

Got a point there. It's just my reason for not buying used stuff from there. Everytime I got there and looked after games, they looked very .. used. But sure, this is how business works - and it's not Gamestops fault that some people use their stuff as punching balls.

That said, GameStop could do a better job of using and applying price stickers that aren't impossible to remove without leaving residue. -_-

What are* they thinking?

Fix'd. :P

And hey, it could be worse I guess. I picked up a copy of Sonic & the Secret Rings from GameStop a while back, and it had a price tag from what I assume was another game shop, or an older era when GameStop's tags were different. It was a different color from GameStop's price stickers and was on the inside of the spine, so I assumed that it was just slipped in there and could be slipped out by lifting the plastic cover of the case.

When I got home, it turned out that the yellow sticker LITERALLY was stuck onto the cover art, UNDERNEATH the plastic of the spine... Meaning there was no way to possibly remove it without seriously damaging the cover art. Furthermore, removing the GameStop sticker on the back corner revealed another yellow price sticker (this time outside the plastic), and the barcode beneath the plastic was cut out with scissors.

Seriously, I don't understand these shops sometimes... and I'm speaking as someone who used to work at a used game shop, too.
