Persona 3 prequel "Aegis: The First Mission" will be ported to Switch & Steam

Back in 2007, Atlus released the action RPG Aegis: The First Mission, a Persona 3 prequel focused on Aigis, exclusively for mobile phones in Japan. It hasn't been available to download for quite some time, and with no ROMs available online, the game was considered lost. That will change sometime soon, however, thanks to the G-Mode Archives, a series of re-releases of Japan-exclusive mobile phone games on Switch and Steam.

The G-Mode Archives release, like the original, will only support Japanese text (as confirmed on the Steam page), but it's possible an English translation patch will be available after launch. While the original game has been lost, a full playthrough video was uploaded to the Japanese video-sharing website NicoNico back in 2011, and has been translated into English by reddit user /u/penthesileaPicaro. Several of the G-Mode Archives releases have already received translation patches as well, including a spin-off of the original Persona, Megami Ibunroku Persona: Ikuu no Tou Hen.

No release date has been announced for the port, but it's possible it will be timed to coincide with the release of the Persona 3 Reload epilogue Episode Aigis in September, as both games focus on Aigis.

Love P3 Aigis, but not sure how motivated I'd be to play through a PC port of a 2007 mobile game. I'd probably rather just play a localized version on my phone instead. Would make a good companion to playing through the P3 remake.

I would too, but I doubt it would be localized. I believe this is the most we'll get, which in itself is already a lot considering how obscure these phone games were

It's always pretty cool to have such games being ported on Steam. To most people it will not be very interesting but it's still cool to have access for enthusiasts.
I wish I could try all those java mobile metal slug games, but when I tried the controls weren't working

I didn't even know this existed, but I came to the series relatively late. I discovered P3FES after P4 had released, and it was a great experience. What a hidden gem that game was. I'm not sure how I feel about this game, since I didn't even finish The Answer.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
