Initial Mig Switch flashcart units now available and being tested by reviewers

aaaa.png

The first batch of the Mig Switch flashcarts have made their way into the hands of reviewers. Plenty of initial impressions have gone live, with users showing off how the device works. Just as promised, you can in fact play your "legally owned Nintendo Switch games", across any model of Nintendo Switch. However, there are more questions raised than answered.

For one, it's still uncertain if and when you'll get banned after playing online using the Mig Switch--the team claims so long as you have a valid certificate, card ID set, and card UID, and a fully complete game dump, you'll be able to play online just fine. Whether or not Nintendo can notice and take action is something that will take time to see. In order to obtain updates and DLCs for games, you'll need to be online to download them, as the Mig Switch can't load those files itself.

This leads into another quandary. The three aforementioned aspects--the certificates and IDs--come from a backed up copy of a Nintendo Switch game. If someone were to illicitly share their certificate online, there could be dozens or hundreds of users using the same cert for multiple games, across multiple systems, at the same time. Since you can obtain a certificate from a physical game, there's growing concern as to how it could affect pre-owned backed up copies of games that might have had their certificates used and banned. We know for a fact that Nintendo has banned gamecart certificates in the past, as found by scene memeber SciresM back in 2018.

If you're interested in seeing the Mig Switch in action, there are a handful of reviews from notable emulation-focused YouTubers.

So far, what are your thoughts on the Mig Switch? There's plenty of interesting quirks to the device, from its usage, to its mysterious development team. Have you ordered one, either to test out, or for use on trickier to softmod Switch revisions? Or are you staying away from anything to do with this flashcart?

Well you say you can play pirates copies, but the mig needs cert + initial data. I get you can use the cert of any game, but you still need the initial data which is unique to each game.
Each game doesn’t have to be unique though. You just need something that’s unique to yourself and doesn’t have a bunch of randoms using it

I’m sure someone will make a program to automate changing this info for a full folder of XCIs

Exactly, how come nobody uploaded those extra required files yet. Its not that hard at all to obtain those files
Like the sky 3ds, those files are unique fingerprints and are not shared. The idea is like the sky3ds, hopefully we can use legit serial numbers in place of the ones that come with downloaded ROMS. Without more insight on the new flashcard and development, it is just a waiting game still.

that's not how serial numbers work. serial numbers are combined with a number you don't know to create a hash that needs to match. When Nintendo online request the serial number and the hash is bad, so is your account.

Read up on how the sky3ds worked. Thats what we need to shoot for.

Once I assume this thing is cloned (for cost reasons) and those clones are identical without issues (and no ban risk from using your own dumps online) I would be tempted to get one to load the games on I wouldn't normally carry when traveling.

A custom firmware that adds a captive portal to allow you to choose the next game would also be nice assuming if it can even transmit that far reliably without a different pcb to add a antenna

It would be nice if we can Switch games on the Mig switch with a button press instead of inserting and removing the cart. Or maybe a launcher that launch other games.

I'm sure with time they will integrate buttons into it. sky3ds started with one button and the v2 revision of it offered a rocker switch. I don't see a portal of any type happening because we cannot sign non Nintendo software that would run on the switch.

Guess it is worth a wait. Good complement to my Switch with only 256GB High Endurance SD Card for Android and Ubuntu.

Cant help but think it’s a scam for the most part. Not a single person who has preordered one has received it after they’d claimed units would be shipped out first week of February. I’m beginning to think they’ll keep announcing delays before eventually shutting down their websites and disappearing with everyone’s $$$

Chinese new year literally just ended. Everything and I mean everything shuts down for at least a week when that rolls around

I wonder what happen to that post from gamemodder in Russia, claimed to have a pile of unassembled MIG's and claimed he was shipping out in a few days. That was two weeks ago. Does Russia celebrate Chinese new year also. B-) I tagged him in a thread days ago, but still no response.

Youve never actually purchased mods and hack tools for consoles in the past.. have you. This is all par for the course. Don't buy zero day stuff. The product has no proven fabrication record, no distribution network, and these guys often have to jump through several payment methods before getting one resistant to the big N.

Let me know when I can buy one made in China for the same price that I paid for my R4 DS flashcart ($20) and then it might be enough to make me get a Switch!
