Hacking YSMenu & EZ 3in1 problem on DSTT

I just got a EZ 3in1 slot 2 expansion to finaly play some old GBA fave's on my DSTT and 1 little thing is getting in the way.

My set-up is YSMenu with Unofficial kernal 1.17a12.

Had a quick run through of Final Fight One (which IMO is a better conversion than the SNES version with all 3 players playable and a lot more animations) and it picked up save data without problems when I turned it off and restarted, I could continue where I left it.

Since that went well I booted up the main reson I got the Ez 3in1, Mario & Luigi's Superstar Saga and was all smiles until it told me it couldn't create a save before starting the game.

Is this a known problem with this or other GBA roms? If it is can someone kindly enlighten me as to how I can get it sorted?

On the YSMenu screen below the GBA rom is 2 options, GBA_NOR_WRITE and GBA_NOR_READ_SRAM. I haven't messed around with either of these because I have no idea how it affects the running of the game, all I did was create a save the first time I booted the game.

Knowing me I'm probably doing something obviuosly wrong but it won't be obvious until someone points it out

Its an EEPROM save type, EZFlash 3 in 1 only supports flash SRAM. You need to patch it to work with non-eeprom flashcart supporting carts.

You can find out if a game uses eeprom saves (if this ever happens again, which it might), by going to releases at the top of gbatemp.net, hit gba at the left and hit search and search for eeprom within save types, it'll list all the games that use eeprom at the left.

You need the patch to make it use SRAM, you can find patches for almost all eeprom games here:

Enjoy, had this problem yesterday with my R4 Wood and EZ Flash 3 in 1, found the answer quick and glad it worked, just spreading the knowledge, have fun, I'm starting the game right along side ya.

just patch it with gbata.. it almost games on gba is like that anyway, so if save fails, just patch it with gbata sram patch to get the saving problem solved
