Hacking YSmenu brightness setting does not work on DS

So I have the original R4 card, and all my games work and all, mario & luigi bowser's inside story, ghost trick, etc, etc. However in order to play these games I had to replace the files on my SD card with the retrogamefan multi cart update. However by doing this I can no longer click the left bumper to change the brightness, I have to go into the settings on my computer to do it, which is a hassle, is there anyway to fix this?
