I'm in the mood for something off the beaten path in terms of humor and/or premise. Been playing a bit of Disgaea and P3P, both very unique for their respective genres. Kinda looking for something quirky like that. Tried to get into ZHP, but not really feeling the controls -- works for Disgaea, not so much for a Rogue-like. Any recommendations (English-only please, or at the very least, playable). Doesn't have to necessarily be an RPG, either. Just something...different, if you know what I mean.

Thanks

disgaea and prinny games

one idie game comes to mind called Bunny Must Die: Chelsea and the 7Devils it is 2 games in one it is if you will a metroidesque game. it is also 2 games in 1

also touhou project if ya aint know it it is a autoscroll bullethell game

Princess Crown.

Not English, but there's a translation of the text out there in html format (not a language patch) and it's the precursor to Odin Sphere on the PS2.

I saw this post and it said kirby boy was the last person to post. I instinctively thought he was going to recommend kirby
If it was a Nintendo Console maybe.

Are you going to emulate stuff? If so, I have a few reccomendations.

Gekibo: Gekisha Boy (Turbo Grafx 16) Insane Picture-taking platformer where the aim of the game is to score enough points by taking pictures of weird and perverse things

Ai Cho Aniki (TG16 CD) Quirky SHMUP with the controls of a fighting game (quarter circle shoot does a different attack than standard shoot, etc)

For PSP Itself? Cho Aniki Zero is a little less quirky controls-wise but still kooky and great nonetheless.

Parodius portable has some of the most fun and insane SHMUP's you'll ever play.

As for non shmup stuff, the two prinny games for sure, and Crush, which is essentially super paper mario, but more of a puzzler and really well done.

There's WAAY more I could list, but just try a few of these, for now

Don't know what you mean by "quirky", but I'll just list a few games that I think are unique:

Cladun: This is an RPG
Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake
Patchwork Heroes

You should try the Touhou homebrew game for the PSP if you already haven't then.

Thanks for the suggestions. Been meaning to check out the Prinny games. Any opinions on which one is the better game, the first or second?

echochrome, Piyotama and The 2D Adventures of rotating octopus character are pretty quirky.

Gitaroo Man Lives!
Yes to bolded games. Have played all of them and they are great for a good laugh. Gitaroo Man is on the hard side so be warned before diving in. If you like shooters, Twinbee Portable is another games to look into.

They play pretty much the same. The only major difference is the storyline, with are both funny as all hell. I think P:OPD (second game) has a few added weapons to it (have it but have not played it much). Be warned, the difficulty levels of these games are up there with the Ghouls n' Ghosts series (but with a TON more humor), dood.

WTF is a POS! & gitaroo man ftw... prinny games bored me personally... Arc the Lad III for psx is an rpg with amazing script and fun tactical rpg battle system... pretty well paced too... you breeze through it if you do all the quests or just skip to the main quests right away and get your butt kicked.... great underated quirky rpg...

I see Bunny Must Die was listed, that's on PSP? As far as I knew it was PC only... if it is on PSP I'm going to have to grab it ASAP, although considering how the controls work, it seems like it would pose even more of a challenge on the PSP.
