HP G42-243CL. Horrible laptop, overheats far too often, even when idle (on the table).
Hopefully I can get a new laptop before I go to university, don't wanna be stuck with this hunk of junk.
*Start with making a full back-up copy*
1. Get rid of all HP-branded software, especially if any of it controls CPU stepping.
2. Get RMClock.
3. Undervolt the cores, prepare 3-4 profiles, use pre-made profiles instead of CPU stepping or set Maximum Performance to kick in only when 90%+ resources are used, use undervolted and underclocked Power Saving in idle, a medium setting for CPU usage between 30 and 90%
4. Profit as FCUK.
Branded software and "intelligent" stepping kills laptops, most of the time they kick into max performance mode when they don't need to, wasting battery life and overheating. The Windows service that controls it when no outside program is present is usually better, but still, RMClock sits on the throne.
Manually setting the stepping or disabling it altogether in favour of hotkeys for different CPU Frequency/Voltage settings will not only boost performance but also battery life.
