Yifan Lu Announces HENKaku - A New Native Vita Homebrew Enabler for 3.60.

Earlier today, Yifan Lu, a well-known member of the Vita hacking scene famous for the Rejuvenate hack for the Dev Assistants, has announced that a new (native!) Vita homebrew enabler for the latest firmware version, as of writing (3.60), will be arriving tomorrow at "9:00AM UTC".

The new hack, known as "HENKaku", will require the following:
  • A Vita/PSTV running 3.60
  • A memcard with at least 10MB of free space (internal memory is currently not supported!)
  • An FTP client
  • An internet connection**
**Offline support is now available! Launch the exploit straight from the email app without the need for internet access at all! See the unofficial release thread for more details. (Internet connection still required for installation)

This is a small paragraph of Yifan Lu himself explaining what the properties of this new homebrew enabler does:

HENkaku simply lets you install homebrew as bubbles in LiveArea. It is a native hack that disables the filesystem sandbox. It installs molecularShell, a fork of VitaShell that lets you access the memory card over FTP and install homebrew packages (which we create as VPK files). With vita-toolchain, developers have access to the same system features licensed developers have access to as well as undocumented features that licensed developers cannot use (including overclocking the processors).

The hack has been released at http://henkaku.me ~ Furthermore, the hack is said to be exclusive to 3.60, and there is to be no backports for the time being.

Well, vita was actually hacked just now.

All previous "hacks" were either psp ones or userland which didn't really give you anything fun to play with.

Henkaku is kernel hack and once it will be reverse engineered (there is ongoing progress on that) things will start to fly into good direction once people will get a grip of hardware.

So far past 2 weeks were better on scene than any other console hacking scene this early in life.

Hell we have working emulators in literally days while on 3DS despite few years of kernel access you had to wait months for proper emulator support.
Quake1 port was done in literally like a week.

Why is it actually not possible to just replace the eboot.pbp from for example numblast and then play an other psp game?

HENkaku might be a kernel hack under the hood, but it only gives you userland homebrew to play with. It's the same as Rejuvenate, it's just attracting more attention because it is accessible.

It won't work like that because the EBOOT is signed, and even if you re-signed the replacement EBOOT like when the old rebirth bubble methods were around, it won't work because it got patched in a later firmware. (somewhere between 3.55 and 3.60)
Also, the PSP games have licenses, so I'm assuming it would break the license too? Not sure on that one...

So we can't try to get those "base headers" and resign the eboot with PS One Loader by TheFlow? That wouldn't work?

Uh, wrong. VitaQuake was a Rejuvenate app. VitaQuake 1.3 was the first HENkaku version. It already had been ported.

This does not install pkg files. This installs "pkgs" files. Which seem just to be zip archives. This thing looks useless and shoddy.
Here, here! What's the point in calling it "PKG" installer when it's not even what it says it does... Just seems like a VPK installer clone to me, what with the zip archives and everything...
