Just a couple of notes:

1. Partition and prepare the SD card from a Ubuntu install (or Live CD, and it's a waste to have a CD lying around, so you should probably install Ubuntu as well.

)

2. There isn't Firefox in it. Firefox is MUCH too heavy. The browser included is based off Firefox, called Iceweasel. It includes a pretty old version of it.

3. If you've read number 1, you know it isn't a "RUN THIS BOOT.DOL!" application. It's a setting up a separate ext3 partition (mines 700MB), extracting the filesystem on that, then running the kernel image.

anyone know how to fix resolution on a ntsc tv other than the xorg.conf ntsc_60 thing i know about that.
cuz about a quarter inch of the top and bottom get cut off the screen what do you edit in xorg to get a normal 640x480 resolution.

I've not noticed any really bad stuff with that in X, on my ntsc tv the top and bottom seem to render fine for me, or at least the bottom where my enlightenment bar is

in the console? yeah, you'll be missing a top and bottom line kinda, ohwell.

i can live with it i guess.
though nothing is messed up or anything it just cuts some the bottom and top of the screen off.

Try to add WiFi supporrt?

I think I may just try this out tomorrow... and when I was talking about USB support... I figured you'd say that... but isn't Nintendo eventually going to unlock usb2.0 feature sometime in the future? Or is that just a rumor?

Thanks for the docs and help...hope this thread gets supported more, because this is actually a very nice feature to have for your Wii... a little mini-pc/game console....hehe that's cool..I'm so glad I bought another Wii for myself so the kid can play his....even though he is always asking me questions about what I am doing with homebrew channel.... I just grin and tell him it's topsecret!

OK... this stuff is WAY out of my league. May someone PLEASE,

1) link us to some type of software we can use to partition our SD cards

2) create a STEP by STEP noob friendly guide on how to use Wii Linux

go to www.ubuntu.com download the iso and burn it to a cd with IMGburn,nero,ect...
put it in your cd drive and reboot your pc and it should ask if you want to try ubuntu click it.incert the sd card and unmount it(after having backed up everything in windows first.)
go to system>>administration>>partition editor.
go to the sd media(not you hard drive it will be the drive the size of your sd card.
right click and delete the current partitions.
click the check mark with apply on it wait for it to finish.
format half the sd card of what ever amount you need for your normal HBC files to fat16 right click new partition select the amount and of space you want and click apply and again wait for the changes to finish.
make a EXT3 partition big enough to hold Xwhiite and do the same you did with the other (but select ext3 as format not fat16) and click apply.
now name the fat16 partition boot and the ext3 partition whiite right click label and type in the appropriate name for each partition then click apply.
take out the sd and put it back in make sure the partitions are mounted and are named properly
now go into your open the "debian-etch-4.0+whiite-0.1+xwhiite-0.1.tar.bz2" file open it with Archive manager.
unzip all the files into the whiite file system.( if it says you don't have privileges to do so open apps>>accessories>>terminal and type gksudo nautilus and try from within that).
make a "apps" folder then a folder called "wii-linux" in side that folder now put "zImage-2.6.27b-whiite.elf" in it and rename it boot.elf
now it should load from HBC beta9.

You don't need to login in xwhiite, it auto boots to the GUI.
Are you sure you used this xwhiite root file system package: http://ben64.com/debian-etch-4.0+whiite-0....ite-0.1.tar.bz2 ?
Sounds like you possibly installed the default whiite file system, which does require you to login, and doesn't provide a GUI.

Thanks, that did the trick. At least I was doing things right with the wrong file

.

It looks awsome BTW I tried to play an avi episode of Scrubs and it works.

Hi guys i followed the instructions posted from ago. But i get an error saying:
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
This error just stands on the screen for a few minutes and the wii restarts!
and then i get a flash of a kernel panic and thats it

any help on this problem?

Tutorial?

Man..look at the last pages..there are maany Tutorials...

And whats so hard to partitionate a SD Card with two partitions (FAT32 and Ext3) and extract the folder in the Ext3 Partition? For me, nothing...

But I'm not shure if this is the right App for you when you don't know how to install this, or never was in "contact" with a Linux system...sorry...

Blue-K is kinda right, I've been helping because I've been stuck compiling webkit and not able to work on Bliight for the last couple of days but really, if the gc-linux whiite install guide isn't working for you then you'll need to wait for some sort of ez-pz package that one of the other forum members would put together. I'll be releasing my distro with a lot of docs, but if you can't get the base install setup you should ask someone less versed with linux and more versed with windows to help you setup your partitions (I figure most people with problems here are using windows)

At very least, the best thing to do is come to IRC and ask someone there for specific assistance with what's going wrong on your setup.

by teh way, as far as that "can't open initial console" did you use something other than gnu tar to extract the file? because linux systems (well, whiite, xwhiite, and miight) use device nodes in /dev which have to be exact or you won't be able to access your devices (someone in the #gc-linux channel had this issue yesterday)

As for Bliight, it won't have that problem since I'm using udev and it populates /dev/ for you, but with the debian based distros you do have to be sure you're extrating /dev properly or you'll be in a world of hurt.
