can you save typed docs to the sd card?
I haven't tested it, but I know you can access the Ext3 partition and read things from it. I imagine saving is also possible.

SDHC should work, but I dunno if any of us have really tested it yet.
I tested it with my Kingston 8 GB class 4, and it didn't work.

so is that difficulty to make another partition in windows?
And...Is it worth the work? I mean, is it good enogh ?
because an OS in the Wii would be great!
Partitioning in Windows is a real mess... You'd need a seperate program.

Does the Firefox support Flash 9 or above?

I read in another thread it doesn't.

@t7g...

pm me when that happens? (the text-editor/word processor)

Sure, I'll send ya a pm! and if you'd like, you can join EFNet and join #bliight to see my bitching
about how slow it's going in realtime!

bert can typically be found on EFNet as well I think, though I don't know if he has a channel yet, but I see him in #wiidevot right now, seems a decent enough place to ask him questions about it.

Muzer and I are also in #wiilinux as well, so pick your poison. The install instructions for all distros are the same because all the kernel .dol does is find a /bin/init program on your second sdcard partition and executes it. So basically, you could put any distro there if you could fit it in that space (redhat, ubuntu, etc) but you have to do the "install" on another computer to get it going. Gentoo
is perfect for this with it's stage3 packages and that is one reason I chose it.

Not only can you write to sdcards, but you can also plug in pendrives, usb external harddrives, whatever you'd like via usb, I believe the kernel supports up to 15 devices on usb hubs (but you do NOT get insert notification when something is plugged into a hub, you must BOOT WITH THE DRIVE CONNECTED IF YOU'RE using a hub) (It's a limitation of how the ios handles usb)

In the future, when bootmii is around and such, you'll start to see more powerful and more integrated wii linux kernels popping up that will allow us to do all the things you can do on a normal linux kernel, until then we just have to gimp it, but it's certainly usable.

if only it supported flash player 9...

I'm pretty sure it can, you just need to plug in a lan adapter and find the packages that provide flash9 yourself. Since there is such an outcry about the flash I'll make sure to add it to Bliight, but I'm going with Midori and Webkit instead of Firefox and Xulrunner, I might do both Midori and firefox but first I need to make sure I have a decent base system down.

So how far are we off from just keeping the homebrew sd card the way it has always been and using a usb flashdrive as the partitiion of the white linux? Will this be possible? I mean, emulators and other homebrew apps are already available to access the usb... I know it's not probably usb1.1, but we gotta start somewhere right?!

Anyways... if that is a possibility in the near future... I would also love to get a PM about that...

This is definately cool news to me in the Wii hack world! Thanks for your intel on this.

Ironmask, ya, Muzer has a version of the kernel from Nuvalo that does just that, lets you boot off anything, including usb and just a flatfile mounted loopback (I think)

Only thing is, and trust me on this.

The fastest thing inside your wii is the sdcard reader, not only are you limited to usb1.1 you're also limited by how the usb device is accessed through the ios. I would strongly not recommend running your system off a pendrive unless you like pain, it will go much slower than the sdcard reader.

but yes, if you're interested in that sort of thing then Miight by Muzer is definitely the wiilinux for you, and I know he hasn't released it yet but perhaps soon.

Personally, for Bliight, I'm staying away from that kinda stuff because if you're going to be using Bliight you're going to probably already be wanting a normal linuxish system and not just something to browse the web or watch movies on. Portage is large, and without an sdhc card you're probably already going to be holding portage on a pendrive as is, or in my case, an external usb harddrive mounting a few loopback filesystems for swap, portage, and where portage does it's work.

the newest kernel.elf is a proper elf and does NOT need to be converted to a .dol

wouldnt be a live cd faster ? the only thing that stand in the way is that a dvd cant be ext3 but like live cd's can run on xbox 1

Can't access the dvd drive as of yet, so no, and you don't really have enough memory to work with for a livecd.

In the future when Bootmii comes out you'll see stuff like this coming around quicker because even though it can be done now it's more of a pain in the ass then when Bootmii allows us to load our own ios before the wii even starts.

Since we're all based on whiite linux at least kernel wise, this is the best setup and installation guide out there, I'm not sure about your wifi adapter but if you know how you can compile additional kernel modules. If you let me know which card it is I could poke around and see if it's supported- but I wouldn't hold your breath. You're best off spending twentyfive dollars and getting a lan adapter. You most likely won't see working wifi in Wii-Linuxen until we see Bootmii come out and give the kernel more direct access to the hardware.

After I log in i don't get the GUI presented.

You don't need to login in xwhiite, it auto boots to the GUI.
Are you sure you used this xwhiite root file system package: http://ben64.com/debian-etch-4.0+whiite-0....ite-0.1.tar.bz2 ?
Sounds like you possibly installed the default whiite file system, which does require you to login, and doesn't provide a GUI.
