XOPAD, first open source USB game controller

As for what makes XOPAD it so special? The electronics and firmware on the XOPAD are completely open source (You will be able to download all the design files and source code to change whatever you don't like).

Or you could buy an atmel based avr for around $10, use current open source code to connect a retro joypad (snes/nes/genesis etc.) via USB...

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, but imho it doesn't look very good and makes the whole idea a bit less portable.

Wow, one of the developers/creators of XOPAD right here in our forum!

@Jiten
I think the foremost question on everyone's mind is:
Who's the girl? :tpi: :creep:

Love the way it looks by the way :) (the pad, not the girl :P)

What's the minimum version of Android this will work with?

Also, any reason why the joysticks are black on the all white model?

@browser, I think it looks nice with the black joy sticks on the white model. At this point I don't think we will be funded but if somehow we do, we can always make them white :)
The girl is a friend :)

@spinal_cord, we added speaker, a huge battery, all the plastics and all the electronics for under 65 bucks.. If we could add the kitchen sink we would have! Again, probably not gonna get funded at this point so :(

O well, thanks for the comments guys!

@browser, I forgot to answer your question:
As of right now:

OTG Mode: XOPAD requires a minimum of Android 4.0+ (Ice Cream Sandwich) or any USB HID compatible ROM.
- Game controller supported as USB HID device
- Audio supported under various phones automatically - others require root
- Charging = Tinkering

AOA 2.0 Mode: XOPAD requires a minimum of Android 4.1+ (Jelly Bean)
- Game controller supported as USB HID host
- Audio supported in the future
- Charging supported

With the extra battery, it sounded like a great idea.

Maybe you can try again by having the controller on the bottom of the phone and have it slide out somehow.

Idk, just typing out thoughts. :P

I really like the idea. The shape could use a bit of reworking but other than that I like it. I like the general shape of it and the way it expands to fit different phones. I also like the built in speakers. That'll probably be better than the little speaker in my S3. I also like things with a matte finish. It doesn't get fingerprinty or scratched as easily. I also don't mind the size. I wouldn't have it attached to my phone all the time. I could just throw it in my backpack or something. I don't like the cost though. I remember a time when video game controllers used to cost $10. Now I can't afford to play local multiplayer on my consoles because the controllers cost upwards of $60 :(
